I make half my living running Twitter accounts for clients so I spend a lot of time over there.Someone asked about paid Hootsuite - the best thing about paid is the ability to upload a spreadsheet of Tweets. That way you can set up a whole week one day then you won't stress about posting.
Twitter success is all about the Follow / Follower ratio. Twitter will stop you if you follow too many people before they follow back so choose people who are your target audience.
Here's my best tip: find the Twitter of an author who writes the same kind of books you write, then click her followers and follow those people. If they like her books, they'll like yours, too.
Morris wrote: Can someone show me around the Twitter world and get me oriented.Morris, thanks for starting this thread. I'm a social media luddite and have been resisting twitter for ages. But now it looks like a relatively painless intro to the genre. Just scored @cbmatson... woo hoo!
First follow is: @MorrisEGraham
One thing that I learned is that short names without the underline work best for mobile.
There you go, C.B. You might read the rest of this thread, and there is a link to the Twitter Cheat Sheet on on my my previous posts in this thread. I followed you--and like you, I am trying to figure it all out. I am about to grab a teenager and have them mentor me. LOL
Thanks Cynthia. Great idea about building a following with a similar author @AlisonBuehlerMS I am happy to retweet!
I've used Twitter for awhile and mostly post book reviews and news items related to books and publishing. Twuffer http://twuffer.com/ is a handy free program that lets you schedule posts ahead of time. I am @james_aura on Twitter. My first ebook has sold fairly well and am now considering early promotion of the sequel, although it's still a work in progress. I post promotions only occasionally.
I think I am following everyone here. Will go back from time-to-time to check.
Great thread! I think if I were more consistent on Twitter it would help. I've followed everyone here, I think. If I missed you let me know. My handle is @coridysonLearning lots, thanks for the great thread!
I think I am current with the follows. I will go back through today later and double-check.
Just found this thread. I seem to struggle with twitter. If you'd like to follow me, I'd follow back. My twitter handle is @Indiedaram
Morris wrote: "Hey check out, The Twitter for Dummies Cheat Sheet http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content..."Thanks Morris, very useful!
I see here earlier something about a list. How do you make a list in Twitter, and what do you use it for?
Thanks, Ceanmohrlass. I will chew on this a while and try to make a list for practice.
A novice to Twitter. I think I secretly hate it, but won't admit it to myself. From you're post, I learned a great deal, so thank you for that. I originally got two accounts, one personal and the other professional. Somehow, my personal suddenly got all these followers, don't know how or why, from people I don't know. I think they got my handle mix up with some else, so I haven't used it. Would love to stop it. Crazy, right.
