Book: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Author: Seth Grahame-Smith Year of Publication: 2010 Number of Pages: 336
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is a horror written by Seth Grahame-Smith. The journal-style book is written as a partial "secret" diary of Abraham Lincoln, kept by the 16th President of the United States and given to the author by a vampire named Henry Sturges. When Abraham Lincoln is only eleven years old, he learns from his father, Thomas that vampires are, in fact, real. Thomas explains to his son that a vampire killed Abraham's grandfather (also named Abraham Lincoln) in 1786. Young Abraham is also shocked to learn that his beloved mother, Nancy succumbed not to milk sickness but rather to being given a "fool's dose" of vampire blood, the result of Thomas's failure to repay a debt. Lincoln vows in his diary to kill as many vampires as he can. As a young adult, Lincoln and a friend travel down the Mississippi River to New Orleans on a flatboat to sell a number of goods. Here Lincoln's life is changed forever after he witnesses a slave auction. Lincoln follows a slave buyer and his new slaves back to their plantation and discovers to his horror that the buyer is a vampire - the slaves are to be used not for labor but for food. Lincoln writes in his journal his belief that vampires will continue to exist in America as long as they can easily buy their victims in this manner - to end slavery is to end the scourge of vampires.
This book is a great book altogether. Even though I don’t like to read very much, this book really kept me on my heels with its drama and very violent nature. There are many historic figures like Edgar Allen Poe and William Seward in this story that make the story seem realistic. The story has this melancholy and menace that makes it more interesting as you read on. It is also interesting how they used the subject of slavery in this book. Most of the plantation owners were vampires and they ate their own slaves which was unsettling. Either way, this book was the best book I’ve read I a while.
The book is said to be for young adult even though its violent nature. I would recommend the book to anyone who wants a good scare. It has a lot of scary and terrifying moments that leave readers scared like I was. Also if you like history, this book will help you understand history a little better. This book does a great job of mixing fiction and non-fiction elements to make this book entertaining. In my honest opinion this book is a 10 out of 10.
I have not read the book i've only saw the movie. But how you describe it makes it sound more interesting than the movie. I would probably read this book in my free time because it would combine my favorite subjects history and reading. and The fact that they made a president a Vampire Slayer is really funny LeL
This book seems like it would be good, due to how its a fiction, involving mythical creatures and historical figures and events. I feel as if this book will have me on the edge of my seat, which i find very pleasing in a book. I hope to maybe one day read this, but i wouldn't exactly buy and read it immediately.
