In the book “Splinter Cell/Fallout” written by Tom Clancy, it starts out in 2008. The main character Sam Fisher is walking the streets of San Francisco; he is being tailed by several groups of people. Sam looses the tails and we find out that it was actually a test; Sam belongs to a group called Third Echelon, a government spy agency. Sam is participating in training with the CIA. While doing the evaluation of the training scenario Sam learns his brother Peter is Ill andhe has to fly back to the East coast. Sam learns that his brother has contacted plutonium hydride 19 also known as PuH-19.

The story then flashes back 6 years earlier when Bolot Omurbai was the leader of Kyrgyzstan, he was a hard line Muslim who was executed by the new government that was aided by the United States. The quick flashback then brings us back to 2008. In the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, Omurbai who was supposed to be dead reappears and takes over the KRLA Army. Omurbai states that the non-believers will suffer soon, refer to those who go against strict Islam law. We later learn that he has a plot to destroy the world’s oil supply.

The story then takes us to several countries around the world as Sam Fisher tries to find the ones responsible for his brother’s death and to stop the plot. The story takes a turn when Sam is in Canada, a female named Carmen who specializes in hydrogeology and works for Akono Oil goes missing. While this is happening Omurbai has overthrown the government of Kyrgyzstan and has teamed up with the North Korean. They are kidnapping scientist to create a fungus that will destroy the world’s oil supply.

Sam finally tracks down the formula for the fungus, along with the missing scientist and Carmen in Tian Shan Mountains. She is being held by Omurbai soldiers. Sam has to shoot her in the hip to cause her to spin around so he can kill the soldiers escorting her. The U.S. Army try to capture Omubai at a road block but he and his soldiers get involved in a fire fight. Omurbai is the last enemy alive so he decides to shoot himself with his last bullet. The North Koreans deny any involvement in the plot.

I liked the book because it had a lot of action, I enjoy reading books that involve action, soldiers and the military. One thing I didn’t like about the book was that there was a lot of jumping around between different countries and locations. At some points I lost track of what country I was in. The chapters were short which made it easy to have stopping points in the book.
