Join us over the next few weeks as we read-along Kate Morton's The Lake House with four amazing bloggers. Each blogger will present a portion of the book with discussion questions and posts. The questions below are from Jenn @ Lost In A Great Book.
Questions for Chapters 1 – 9
1. In the first few chapters of the book, we are introduced to the importance of families and how one action can change a family forever. Sadie finds security with her grandparents, while Alice has all sense of safety removed with the loss of her brother. This far into the novel, how are the characters of Sadie, Alice and even Eleanor influenced by their families?
2. Both Sadie and Alice have developed careers that tie in to crime – Sadie as a police officer and Alice as a crime novelist. In what ways do their respective careers help to develop the mystery within the first nine chapters of the book?
3. The Lake House is really two family stories connected by time and location. Loeanneth holds both in its bricks, as it has been left abandoned more than once, and brought back to life, first by Eleanor, then by Alice and finally by Sadie with her investigations. What effect does the cycle of the house have on the narrative?
4. Although it is early in the narrative, it is clear that Sadie, Alice and Eleanor are all haunted by the actions of their past. Can you really escape the past, or will history always find a way to come around and repeat itself somehow?
