message 1: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonalee) | 109 comments I don't know if I've posted this in the right place but if not please tell me and I will move it. But when I first downloaded the app on my phone I noticed you could add a challenge of how many books you want to aim to read before the year is up. I thought what a fantastic idea as sometimes I find it difficult to find time to sit and read a book. With the challenge I make time, I want to complete the challenge therefore I must crack on and read in any spare time I have.

I have chosen a challenge of 30 books and I'm beginning to think this was the wrong choice, I'm a pretty slow reader so I doubt I will make it up to the 30 but hey I will give it a good go.

What about you guys? Have you set yourself a challenge?

message 2: by Will (new)

Will | 3 comments My goal's 60 (originally 100 but school stuff got in the way), but I'm a pretty quick reader so I think I might get over that.

message 3: by Catalina (new)

Catalina | 152 comments I'm quite a slow reader, plus I have school and stuff, so I set my goal as 12 (one per month), but now that I've discovered you can modify your goal, I might change it to more books, because I think I'll be able to read more than one book per month in the summer :)

message 4: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonalee) | 109 comments I didn't realise you can modify it. I might change mine to be abit less as I don't think I will reach my goal.

60! And I thought my number was high! But I suppose if you read quickly it be easy to do.

message 5: by Morganna (new)

Morganna | 59 comments I've set my goal at 50 because that's ten more books than I read last year and a challenging number for me to reach due to school and sport commitments.
However, I am also a fast reader and I have a 20 minute bus ride each day during the school week that I can read during, plus the weekends, so I think I'll be able to achieve my goal, and if not, just under it.

message 6: by Ness (new)

Ness I set mine to 30 because like Morganna that's 10 more than last year, but I think I can do more than that, so I might change mine to 5-10 books more

message 7: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Leigh (justjaimeleigh) I set mine at 28 books (5,000 pages of books on my tbr and 5,000 pages not on tbr) and I am on track so far :)

message 8: by Iben (new)

Iben | 14 comments I've only set mine to 20 books this year, because I know that moving and uni stuff will get in the way of me reading more. So far I've read 5, and I'm pretty happy with that. :)

message 9: by Ebru (new)

Ebru (eybrues) | 16 comments i've set mine on 25 and I already read seven so I guess it's going pretty ok, since i'm not the slowest reader :) but then there's school...

message 10: by Jennie (new)

Jennie (jennieelizabeth) | 91 comments I haven't set one, but I've read 12 books so far this year and I have three months in the summer between leaving school and going to uni, so I'm aiming for 100 :)

message 11: by Emily (new)

Emily (ghejrc) I've set mine to 40 which is 10 less than last year but I can't see me having as much free time this year as I did in 2013...although if I hit 50 again, it'll be a bonus ;)

I'm currently 2 behind schedule but I attribute that to starting the year with two particularly long and difficult books (one of which is still not finished)...I'm currently taking it easy with some shorter ones in order to catch up (and give my poor brain a break)

I may rethink my goal in the summer, depending on how it's going..

message 12: by Otti (new)

Otti Fae | 47 comments I set mine for just 15 because I thought i'd read one a month and maybe a few others during winter break. I've read 6 already & currently reading 2, so i guess I'm going pretty well and may add a few later :)

message 13: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonalee) | 109 comments I'm 4 books behind but I'm putting that down to only joining in March and I've already read 3 books since I've started so i guess I'm doing better than I thought I would be.

message 14: by Ness (new)

Ness Even though you just joined you can still make the books count you read earlier this year by setting a date for when you read them

message 15: by Angela Jr. (new)

Angela Jr. i've set my goal to 50 (not knowing if that was a lot or very little, since i only joined this january)and i've already read 23 and am 12 books ahead of schedule, so i think i'm going to set my goal a bit higher soon ^^

i've also noticed that i make more time for reading now that i have a goal for the year, so i'll probably participate in the challenge every year now :)

message 16: by Rikki (new)

Rikki (rikkicaron) | 112 comments Mine was 130 but I thought I wouldn't be able to reach it so I set it to 100. I might add more if I can for the summer holidays

message 17: by Ella (new)

Ella | 84 comments I've just made my book challenge and put it at 40 books, I don't know if that's a lot or not many but I guess I can up the number if I reach it :) so far I have read 4 books, now on my 5th

message 18: by Darby (new)

Darby | 217 comments My goal of 25 really only goes for 6 months, even though that wasn't an available option on here. I read quickly depending on how long each burst if reading is. Fangirl (430 something pages) took me 5 days because I read an hour a day. Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo took me nearly 2 weeks because I could only read snippets in class due to lack of free time at home.

message 19: by Jasmine20 (new)

Jasmine20 | 88 comments I've set mine to 30 books, I may have to move it up because I read pretty quickly. It just depends if I get the time to sit down and read:)

message 20: by Fien (new)

Fien (touchedbythepage) | 4 comments I didn't know you could change the challenge!
I try to be realistic. I've set mine to 40 books, which is 5 books more than last year. I'm already 5 books ahead of schedule so I'm not worried. :) I think I might go for 45 books next year if I manage to reach my goal.

message 21: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (itssofiblanco) | 8 comments My goal is 50, which is quite a lot because I honestly don't have time to read for pleassure (sadly).
However, at university professors make me read all sorts of stuff, and I'm also couting short stories (is that cheating?)

message 22: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Kaelin (sophiekaelin) | 20 comments I set mine as 100, but with the mass amount of school work I'm having to do, I think I might lower it. What should I set it?

message 23: by terry (new)

terry (sherlockfied) My goal is 100, but maybe I could add more (I'm 20 books ahead the schedule, but I'm still not sure)'cause I have to read a lot of novels for school.

message 24: by Rikki (new)

Rikki (rikkicaron) | 112 comments If anyone can bump theirs up, go ahead! Its great to be able to increase it :) I'm finishing secondary school this year, so no exams at the beginning of next year so my summer might consist of devouring books!

message 25: by Shona (new)

No I don't think that's cheating. If you've read it then that is all that matters.

message 26: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (itssofiblanco) | 8 comments Great, thanks for that Shona :)

message 27: by Molly (new)

Molly | 19 comments This year I set my goal as 45, which hopefully I'll be able to complete! My goal last year was also 45, but I only got to 40, so I figure trying to read 5 more than last year sounds like a good goal. I never get to read as much as I like to while I'm away at school because college is time consuming, but right now I'm still 1 book ahead of schedule :) And I always read a ton during the summer so that helps. And even if I don't reach my goal, it still helps motivate me to read tons of great books, which is fine by me :)

message 28: by Ash (new)

Ash (ashiew) I have set mine to 50 this year. I did the same last year and completed my goal. I even read more than 50 last year. I ended up reading 79 books. I figured every year I would just set myself a goal of 50 books.

message 29: by Ash (new)

Ash (ashiew) Also a question, do you guys count graphic novels and manga toward your reading goal? Last year I didn't but this year I am. I would love to hear your opinions.

message 30: by Catalina (new)

Catalina | 152 comments I just changed my challenge from 12 to 24 :) I'm one book behind at the moment, but this website is so good at encouraging me to read that I think I'll be on track pretty quickly!

Ashley: I don't read lots of graphic novels and manga, but if I did I would probably count them toward my goal :)

message 31: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B (strawberiz1996) | 1 comments I set my goal as 63, secretly I want to get up to a hundred, I'm a pretty fast reader, I'm reading a book every 3 - 4 days, My problem is actually finding libraries with good books though. Another problem I'm having is that I sometimes read a book that isn't on goodreads, is there a way to add a book?

Thanks and Good Luck with your challenges!

ps if you know of any good books about wither sick kids, or suicide or something like that please don't hesitate to tell me :)

message 32: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonalee) | 109 comments Sofia wrote: "Great, thanks for that Shona :)"

Your welcome :-)

Woohoo I've read another book totalling up to 4 books read and only 3 behind schedule. Haha I sound so pathetic next to those of you who have read a hell of a lot more than me!

message 33: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Shaver | 7 comments That's wonderful. I've only read six or so because I became so busy.

message 34: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Shaver | 7 comments I love kindlebuffet.com. I have a kindle, and getting good books that are free or highly discounted from this site is easy as pie. I love that site, and that site is as good as a library for me.

message 35: by kai (new)

kai (t0xicf0x) | 22 comments my goal is 13 (or at least I believe...)
I'm dyslexic and I'm an incredibly slow reader because of that so I hope I've made the right choice.

message 36: by 1403Anna (new)

1403Anna | 6 comments I set my goal to 35 because I don't have as much time to read as I want. I think I'm gonna hit it, I'm on schedule so far!

message 37: by Fatima (last edited Jun 01, 2014 11:38AM) (new)

Fatima (fmgr) | 16 comments I set my goal to 20 but I feel as though I am not going to meet it becuase it is taking me ages to finish the book I am currently reading. I've got the summer holidays coming up though so maybe I'll catch up then.

message 38: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Kristensen (chickpeasarenice) | 7 comments I originally set my goal to 30, thinking this was a reasonable number...but when I realised I was 6 books ahead of schedule I changed it to 40 books and I'm currently 3 books ahead of schedule. I really like this reading challenge because I think it will push people into making time for reading!

message 39: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 53 comments I set 25 and have read 2 I should get cracking, my problem is I don't really read at home I only read when I'm out and I'm not usually waiting around much when I'm out so!

message 40: by Amie (new)

Amie Bailey (amiebailey) I set my goal to 30 and I'm on my fifth at the moment. However I did only start my challenge at the end of February, so considering that I think I'm doing quite well!

message 41: by Scorchy (new)

Scorchy | 3 comments I set a goal of.... 40 I think (maybe 45) and I've already got through 18 books :) very happy with myself.

message 42: by Tea (new)

Tea (tabbyu) | 3 comments I set my goal to 20 and I'm already at 7 so I think I'll change it to 30 or 40, maybe more

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I set my goal to 20 because I am a fast reader and I like to read I just can't that often because I have school things and other stuff to do before being able to read.

message 44: by Emma Kihlberg (new)

Emma Kihlberg | 72 comments I think I set my challenge to 50 or maybe even 60 books, since I graduate I June and don't really know what I'm gonna do after the summer... I've already read quite much this year, but the problem is that I find it really hard to remember which book I read when, so I think it says that I've only read two books this year.. well well!

message 45: by Freddie (new)

Freddie | 6 comments I've set mine on 100 books, but I've been ahead of it with like 1-5 books the whole time so I might get higher than that.

message 46: by Ella (new)

Ella | 84 comments Think I might have to drop my number of books down :( at the moment it is 40, which I couldn't work out of it sounded a lot or a little but I'm 5 books behind schedule :(

message 47: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Draper (aimeedraper) | 10 comments Mines 50 by the end of the year and i've currently done 17 so i'm hoping I do it! Xxx

message 48: by Meg (new)

Meg (megislaughing) My goal is 25. It usually take me a while to finish a book unless I get really really into it. Also it's hard for me to get books sometimes because I can't get to a bookshop orI don't have money to get a book haha.

message 49: by Becky (new)

Becky (queenie_bee_) My target is 12 for now and I'm on schedule but I'm thinking of bumping it up to 24 soon as it only takes me 2-5 days to finish a book! (2 for Hunger Games, 5-ish for Game of Thrones!)

message 50: by Bec (new)

Bec (becmcgrath) | 5 comments I think I started off at around 20, but I've gradually added more ad more to bring my goal up to 35,because I think I can manage the number quite well. I'm already 'ahead of schedule' sp hopefully i can keep it up :)
