Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Classics definitely surprise sometimes, especially when you expect them to be boring and they're hilarious (like The Importance of Being Earnest).

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 331 comments Yes! I was delightfully surprised by Oscar Wilde's work. I guess the moral of this thread is to be open to reading the classics, for more often than not, they contain a surprising little nugget.

Alexis (TheSlothReader) For this challange I listened to Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote. I'm not sure how long the book is since I listened to the audiobook. It was read by Michael C Hall which made it awesome. I have greatly enjoyed some classics. Typically I enjoy modern classics more than anything. It is important to read classics because they've influenced so many things.

I'm reading Sula by Toni Morrison

I do enjoy classics, they are a clear and apt view of their time-period and it's limitations. And they exhibit great language skills.
Classics should be read, you have to develop a flavor for them but once u do u can truly appreciate literature.

Of Mice and Men

How long is the book?
105 pages!

Do you enjoy classics?
Oh god, I really don't. I generally find them very dry and boring. But the ones I do like, I really really really like!

Do you think it's important to read classics?
Yeah. I don't think you have to read every single one, but it's good to broaden your horizons and read books that have stood the test of time.

A Christmas Carol

- How long is the book?

My copy is 68 pages.

- Do you enjoy classics?

Honestly, I enjoy them a lot more now that I am not in school--I can use Sparknotes if I need to and I don't have to analyze the life out of them.

- Do you think it's important to read classics?

Yes! It's important to understand how certain "classic" works have shaped society.
