Andrew | 4 comments So I'm looking for a book that I have once read, would like to re-read/find other works by the same author

please bear with me, I read this book almost 5 years ago now, and it has stuck with me all this time

what I remember of the book is that the title was something like "Shadow army"

Really not sure about this by I believe the authors name was something very uncommon, beginning with a "U"

The main cover had a white background, with a small group of soldiers on a barren hillside occupying the bottom 1/3rd to 1/2; coloured a smoky green (both soldiers and hillside). lettering of the cover was gold if I remember correctly

Unfortunately, I don't have any clue of when the book was published, who published it, or where it was obtained

*SPOILERS*

The magic system is based on the idea that people have gifts that allow them to tap into magic, and summon various representations of magic eg, a sphere of the element in question, or for a specific element, a tree was summoned for earth, or for wind, a small whirlwind

the main character in the book had a nickname which I believe was "rabbit"
he had a trinket (a feather I think) which he carried about with him everywhere and was gifted in earth magic at least, possible more(all of the four elements, but not certain). This main character was also being trained to use his gifts in the novel, but was having difficulty.

there was another character, from what I remember she was a large cat (like a furry) that was gifted in wind magic. This Character ultimately betrays the main character from what I remember.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know, I would be most grateful as this had been bugging me for the past several years

I have looked all over goodreads (doesn't appear to have it on record) and searched google, to no avail

Aerulan | 1317 comments Do you remember if the author was male or female? And when you said you thought the authors name was uncommon, were your referring to the first or last name?

Andrew | 4 comments Pretty sure it was last name, as to gender, I'm really not sure, but I'm guessing male

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Hmm, the cover description sounds like a warhammer book...

Andrew | 4 comments Pretty sure its not a warhammer book, the soldiers were outfitted with bits of armour and swords, not guns

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Warhammer is an RPG in a fantasy setting (with fairly tame magic, kinda like you're describing). Warhammer 40K is... 40,000 years later, after technology. I'm not sure if they have straight Warhammer novelizations.

https://www.goodreads.com/series/4955...

The main character's name is Rabbit

Shadows Past Shadows Past (Borderlands, #3) by Lorna Freeman pretty much fits your cover description
