What are your predictions for Rick's new series in Percy Jackson's world? What do you think will happen?

message 2: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (rolling_in_the_muck) | 35 comments I can't wait to see what will happen in this new series of his!

I'm hoping to see some interesting interplay between Apollo and the other demigods, but I can't say I have many predictions as such, because I don't really know the route that Rick is taking.

Maybe closer to the time I will post more predictions, but at the moment I think that:

Apollo will fall in love with both demigods and mortals - some new to the series hopefully
Apollo will try return as a god by the end, but will have to go through these five books to achieve something to become godly
Apollo will be offered the chance to become a god but chooses not to at the end of the series because of a love interest
Apollo will be a mortal with the ability too see through the mist, like Rachel Dare.
Apollo will be a musical genius with a poem writing talent.
Apollo will stay on camp half blood

Ok by now they are pretty widespread, but we don't really know what's going to happen, I'm just excited to see the PJO and HOO characters come back!

Nice predictions!
I have a (somewhat crazy) prediction that Apollo will fall in love with Reyna.
Yes, yes, I know. But it makes sense? Reyna can't find love with a demigod, we know this series is a wrap up of the last two, and Reyna's romance (not saying that she needs one) was something she wanted and was unresolved.
Therefore, I think a relationship between her and Apollo will be a plot thread throughout the series. What do you guys think?

I don't think you're crazy at all! (well, maybe we're both a little crazy then...to be fair, the best people are)One of my original predictions was that Reyna would have a love interest in this series and Apollo almost seems perfect. Think about it, she had feelings for Jason and Percy, meaning that she was attracted to men who had high morals and courage...so Apollo might be the perfect guy (God?) to come in there and be shake things up (plus, he's an artsy God, so can we just take a minute to appreciate how he'd court her? Boxes of ambrosia and chocolates? Horrible hycoos? His beloved Valedzinator?). My guess is that since Reyna has never (as far as we know) seen Apollo so she's going to assume he's just a maybe not so normal demigod. Love interest or not, I'm sure this series will be awesome!

Haha, I completely agree with you. Crazy people are the best. We're often right, so who knows?

I do agree it makes so much sense. The more I think about Reyna being a possible love interest, the more I think it could happen. It all fits!

I also hope Apollo will be hilarious! But it's Rick, so that's a safe bet!

I do hope however, he pulls it off. A romance with Reyna would be cool, but only if it's written well and makes sense in context!

Finally, that's actually a really interesting point I hadn't considered. Maybe Apollo will conceal his identity? Maybe they'll think he's just a normal demigod?

Maybe he'll tell them he's Apollo, but he can't prove it and they don't believe it! I don't know, but it's definitely interesting to consider how it could play out. What do you think?

Yes, we are often right, aren't we :D?
Yeah, Reyna's character by herself is fantastic, but I feel like she should be allowed to have a love interest if she pleases. Some people think that it would make her weaker as a character but I personally disagree, I think that strong characters can only grow stronger through companionship (well, as long as it's done right, but it's Rick, he doesn't know any other way!)
Every chapter starts with a hycko, and it's the most teenager like God. If this isn't funny, I've lost hope for this world.
The only thing that could be weird about Apollo having a love interest is the fact that he has children (WILL!!!) that are teenagers like him and Reyna. Whether his love interest is Reyna or not, that could potentially lead to a strange (maybe cool?) subplot.
I think that the Seven and huntresses will believe that Apollo is truly Apollo, but he'll try to conceal his identity and go as incognito as the tragically sad, melancoly Ukleli playing Ex-God can so he's not attacked by those who want him dead. Maybe that could be a way Apollo can bond with his kids? I don't know about you, but seeing Apollo's incognito "Fred" persona again is enough to make my dam heart explode

Fred!
I need to see Fred again.
I think it would be pretty strange to see Apollo being the same age as his children and possibly having love interests...
But then again, this is Rick. We've already seen an immortal millennia-old titaness start a relationship with one of our favourite characters. And we all loved it.
So who knows?
It is a 5 book series as well, and somehow I think it may be more similar to PJO in terms of romance, since it is only one main character. So I think even if we see no direct romance with Reyna, or anyone, that doesn't mean it won't happen later on!

Yep, Fred is one of my high standards in men for me these days
Calyspo and Leo were great together, and perfect considering how bittersweet Leo's life as a whole is. It only makes sense that his love life is that way, doesn't it? (Good point by the way, yet another reason a love interest for Apollo could so easily work! I mean, the attraction to Apollo is basically inevitable, it's the personality part he may need to work on…)
That happened with the first Magnus Chase book too, no romance, but I'm sure there will be more in the next books to come. Apollo probably won't have a big love interest in the first book, but by book 2 I wouldn't be surprised! 2016 AND 2017 can't come soon enough I suppose!

(Wow that's a reply chain)

I agree, I think there will probably be a love interest for Magnus in the later books.

I think considering Magnus is a trilogy, whereas ToA is meant to be only a five book series, it gives him even more time to play with. And therefore the romance will be even less rushed.

I agree, a lot does point towards this possible romance. But who knows?

On a side note, why do you think it is called "The Hidden Oracle"? Does it have to do with Rachel?

Or still to do with the fact in BoO the power of the oracle was all gone?

I read the excerpt too, it was pretty awesome, if not completely satisfying.
I don't think Meg is a daughter of Apollo. There's not many clues, but if I'd have to guess I'd say Hermes (just 'cause) or Demeter, mainly because we haven't had a main character who has been a child of Demeter yet.
Also, did you notice the muted voices over the speakerphone? One was Percy, who was the other? Hopefully Annabeth!

Even before I read what you said I thought about Reyna being a main character and love interest because of what Aphrodite/Venus said to her. I ADORE Reyna and want her to find as much happiness as she wants. I'm not saying that she needs a man or anything but she obviously does want to be with someone someday and maybe some opposites will attract thing will happen and ApolloXReyna will happen!!! I'm hoping so I can just see it now!!

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Also I think that the series will have to do with getting Apollo and Rachel's sight and prophecy back because I'm pretty sure the reason that it's gone is because Python is blocking the cave where the oracle first was in Delphi. I think that Apollo will eventually have to go to wherever the cave is where Python is and defeat him and this act will get his godly hood back. And Apollo will still have demigod-like powers because he is still the son of a god, Zeus

Totally agree with your predictions. I think if Reyna/Apollo doesn't happen, I'll be surprised. Also, I think that's the reason why Rick left out going to Delphi in BoO, so Apollo can visit and fight the python and stuff... I definitely think that will be the plot of the first book, getting the prophecies back hence "The Hidden Oracle".
I also hope this means Rachel will be playing a big part! Any of our favourite characters taking part is good!
What do you think?

message 15: by Babhravi (new)

Babhravi Without Apollo, no one controls the oracle or prophecy, so they'll probably have to try and get Rachel's sight back, and without Apollo, no one controls music or the sun, so the gods might have some problems without him.
I also think that Apollo will end up going to camp half blood since he doesn't know anything about the human world, and we'll probably see some of the seven (hopefully the others figured out that Leo was ok) but it might be really weird for Apollo's demigod children since Apollo is just a normal teenage kid like them now.

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Babhravi wrote: "Without Apollo, no one controls the oracle or prophecy, so they'll probably have to try and get Rachel's sight back, and without Apollo, no one controls music or the sun, so the gods might have som..."

That's so true. But I do think that Apollo will try to hide his godliness from everybody(aside from Percy because he sees Percy in the excerpt) so that they don't panic and freak out. Maybe they'll put him in Apollo cabin as a cover, just saying that he's a kid of Apollo. That'd be interesting, Apollo having to not be so boastful of who he is and observing how his kids treat him like a fly on the wall!!!

Haha, I thought the exact same thing! I had imagined scenes of Apollo spying on his son and Nico, trying to act all non-suspicious. I really hope that happens, because I think it could be hilarious reading about Apollo trying to be normal!

It would actually be quite funny to see Apollo try to act normal, because he'd end up making a mess of things and eventually someone would guess. But he'd probably tell Chiron who he is, and Annabeth would probably know since she's Percy's girlfriend, and if the other seven appear, then they might also know too.

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Babhravi wrote: "Arch wrote: "Reyna wrote: "Babhravi wrote: "Without Apollo, no one controls the oracle or prophecy, so they'll probably have to try and get Rachel's sight back, and without Apollo, no one controls ..."

Yeah, the really important people at camp would probably know, like Chiron and the seven, but then i bet they would tell Nico and Reyna. So Nico would be really weary of Apollo being around and couldn't tell Will(which would be awkward). Also, if we're going with the earlier theory of Reyna and Apollo maybe getting together because of the whole "Reyna can never love a demigod but Apollo's a god bit,", then Reyna would know he's a god, which may make things more complicated between the two!!!
Completely unrelated to what I just said, if Apollo was going undercover than what would his name be? Like Adam or something? Something completely mundane or something crazy?

I agree that that's likely, but I was really hoping only Percy and Annabeth know, because it would be really interesting to see Apollo acting around the rest of the seven, and Chiron being suspicious. But we'll have to see, right?

Also, Apollo's 'undercover name' has already been announced, it was in the excerpt (have you read that?)
His mortal name is Lester! What do you think?

Lester? I didn't see that I guess. I did read the excerpt but I guess I somehow missed it! Interesting but it kind of sounds very Apollo-ish to choose a kind of silly name (no offense to anyone with the name Lester personal experience to me has made it kind of a funny name) but I guess that's cool!
Also, do you think at the end Apollo will choose to be a god again or is he gonna stay mortal. I don't see how he can stay mortal because who would control the sun chariot or like Babhravi said, there might be problems with the other aspects of life Apollo controls like music and poetry? What do you guys think?

Yeah, that's a really good point, I hadn't considered that...
So obviously since it's a five book series, I'm guessing that will be a problem at the end of the series, mortal or not. It will probably be addressed through out the series.
In all honesty I only see it being a problem if Apollo gets a love interest eg. Reyna, then obviously it will be a dilemma. Otherwise I think he'll be happy to be a god again, just wiser because he was mortal.
I think we should all remember, Apollo has been mortal before as punishment... so maybe he's got experience!

If Reyna and Apollo does happen then I think that Apollo will have to become a god again because Reyna can't fall in love with a demigod, and although Apollo isn't exactly a demigod, he's still a mortal son of Zeus, so it might not be that much of a dilemma if he gets a love interest.

Apollo has been mortal before, but that would've been in old myths, and he'd think that the world is much more complicated since the last time he was mortal, because a lot of stuff would've changed since then, so he probably wouldn't have tons of experience.

Just think how interesting the relationship could be between them! We could see for the first time the dynamic of a mortal-god relationship and see maybe some confliction from the human thinking "is this something I'd be down with". That's a huge decision so seeing Reyna, such a stoic calculating character, have to make that decision just so intriguing to think about!
And I totally want Sally back and Tratie to be a thing they are meant to be!!!

That's actually something I hadn't considered. We've heard so much about mortal/god relationships (Sally/Poseidon, Frederick/Athena, Tristan/Aphrodite etc. etc. plus ALL the myths) but we haven't actually seen any.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Where else does Rick have left to explore in using the myths IS a god/mortal relationship. It's the natural next step, one of the obvious possibilities that opens with having Apollo as a main character, and one I personally think Rick should take!

Paridhi (apparitionnow) Hey all! I agree with you all about the ReynaXApollo thing. And what Reyna said to Piper at the end of BoO "You will not find love where you wish or
where you hope. No demigod shall heal your heart." That makes the Apollo with Reyna quite possible, I guess. Also, I wonder that maybe in the end of the series, when Apollo becomes a God again(if he); then maybe he will make Reyna his immortal wife or something, like Dionysus made Ariadne his. What ya think?

I agree it will be interesting to see how Rick solves that (if he does make ApolloxReyna happen, of course). I hope if he does go that path, he actually has a solution in mind on how to solve it before he starts writing eg. unlike the second Great Prophecy, where it was clear he hadn't figured how he was going to solve it until the last two books.
But definitely, a lot of evidence pointing to ApolloxReyna (do they have a ship name? Apolleyna? Reynollo? Apollna?)

Mikki Elodie the Ravenclaw Faery (mikaylahannah) | 16 comments I think Reynollo would be just perfect. Great thinking Arch!

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Do you guys think we're going to get a new Great Prophecy? What's it going to be like if we get one and how's the Crew gonna react when they hear there is ANOTHER prophecy? I wonder...

Mikki Elodie the Ravenclaw Faery (mikaylahannah) | 16 comments I think another prophecy could be very possible, especially because Apollo is the god of oracles and prophecies. I hope the prophecy would focus on other characters besides the seven, maybe one prophecy just for Reyna.

message 34: by Arch (new)

Arch | 248 comments Mod
I think a prophecy is likely, but I don't think it will be a *Great* Prophecy.
We've already had two great prophecies in the short space of a few years... I think it will be unlikely (and unrealistic) for Rick to put another one.
But a prophecy? Probably not for the first book, because I believe the whole point is that the Oracle is Hidden, like it was in BoO... maybe they have to get it back?
But prophecies, I think (I could be wrong), will play a big role in the series. And it wouldn't be Rick without some prophecies!
I also really hope Rachel has a big part... Is it just me who can imagine Rachel/Reyna bonding?

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments I seriously hope Rachel will be a huge part in the new series. I've always loved Rachel (even when she did the kissed Percy which was a no no) and I'm glad she was in Heroes of Olympus a little but I think she would be in it more since she is The Oracle in the first place. I wonder if she'll sense it's Apollo if he tries to disguise himself though. Like, he is kind of her "sponsor" in the immortal realm of the gods so you'd think maybe she'd just know it was him and be like "hey, what happened to my prophecy sight dude?"

Dam, that was from a long time ago! I don't know how I missed that in my notifications, sorry for breaking such a long reply chain!
I definitely think that the hidden oracle is actually referring to Apollo himself rather than Rachael. If Apollo hides himself at Camp Half Blood, then he would be the "Hidden Oracle"- even if he doesn't have his mystical oracle powers. I wonder if the oracle will at all be functioning with Apollo as a mortal though, how could there be a quest without one though? What do you think on that?

I would love to see Rachael again, but I personally am actually looking more forward to seeing some of the other characters from the original Percy Jackson series! Sally (and you mustn't forget Paul Blofits!), Grover(!!!), Tyson, Clarisse, Connor and Travis (I expect them to reach Fred and George level pranking by the end of the series!), and so many others. In Heroes of Olympus we were introduced to so many lovely-not to mention heartbreaking-new characters but it would be nice to see some interaction with the older ones too! Seeing Apollo interact with them? It will KILL ME (that if if the wait doesn't kill me first)

(reply to both your comments)
(the reply chain lives on!)

I think a lot depends on whether Apollo will pretend to be a mortal. He's obviously told Percy (and Meg, whoever she is) the truth, which makes me think he doesn't want to hide it.
UNLESS Percy (and presumably Annabeth, who hopefully is there) tells him not to go telling everyone he's a god, for various reasons. Or perhaps Apollo trusted Percy enough, but not others.

Whatever the case, I really really really hope he is in disguise, because there's so much potential to that. It would be so fun to read! And definitely I think Rachel should be able to see through that.

And all the old characters! Grover is the one I want to see most, he needs to be a main character again. Alas, knowing Rick, he probably won't.

Haha, yes (much like Leo) it does!
Yeah, I think that it'll be difficult for someone as cocky as Apollo to try and act normal (or at least as normal as a demigod can be) but I think he'll be able to keep it under wraps at least for half of the book. Apollo knows that there are people after him, so I think that he'll want to hide himself, but even if he believes that someone as godly and amazing as him should never be dulled down, I'm sure Percy (let's face it, it'd probably be Annabeth doing the logic) will talk him into it. Apollo has known Percy for a while, so it makes sense to tell him, and Meg has been helping him, so he trusted her and probably very dramatically told her while she questioned his sanity...couldn't blame her for that though.
Yeah, I never realized how much I absolutely needed disguised Apollo until this series was revealed. Funny how things work out like that sometimes...I'm thinking The seven, Chiron, and Rachael will know, but everyone else won't-including Nico, who may be courting (well, or being court-ed) by Apollo's son Will, and Reyna, who I'm thinking may be a wary love interest. I'm expecting some top notch scenes from Rick for that, he better watch out, my standards are only going to grow higher.
I know! I was looking through The Last Olympian and saw a scene with Grover and freaked out because it has been so long since he has been in the series. I guess the Conceil is really busy work for a young sytrar! I'm really excited to see Tyson too, he was always so close to Percy so I want to know how he felt when his best friend disappeared for months only to come back and nearly be killed by the Earth...Poor guy probably couldn't even pray to his father "Peanut Butter" at a time like that...

Does anyone have any predictions for who this Meg girl is? I've been thinking about it but I don't quite know. Is she another demigod? What if she's a satyr who found Apollo and thought she was gonna find a demigod and then sees him and is like "oh gods look what I've found!" Any ideas?

Mikki Elodie the Ravenclaw Faery (mikaylahannah) | 16 comments Personally I'm betting that she's a demigod, but probably the daughter of a god/goddess that we haven't seen much about yet. Maybe she's a daughter of Hecate ( I know she's a virgin goddess, but c'mon she's the goddess of magic anything could happen.)This is really far fetched but..... what if she's a daughter of Poseidon! She must be the daughter of a very powerful god to have that many monsters after her.

Woah those are all some good theories. I actually think it would be pretty cool if we got another satyr, but isn't it impossible for there to be female satyrs? Hence why we have nymphs marrying satyrs eg. Mellie and Juniper (is Juniper still even a character?!?! Was she mentioned once during the WHOLE of the Heroes of Olympus series?)
I reckon she probably is a demigod, hopefully of a lesser known god(dess). I've still got my fingers crossed for Demeter, because every other god has had a child who is a main character, apart from maybe Dionysus, but since he was at camp we know him well enough.
But Demeter? Hardly seen her, her children haven't been very important yet, and I think she's the only olympian left who Percy hasn't had a one on one conversation with yet. Correct me if I'm wrong!
But I don't know about Meg, I just don't know... I hope she doesn't turn out to be a love interest.

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments Well Katie Gardner is a daughter of a Demeter but she still is a pretty minor character so a main Demeter character would be cool. What about a child of Iris! Like maybe she could make rainbows!! That sounds so childish but now I kinda want a rainbow maker in the crew!! I do hope it's a minor god or goddess though, I want to learn more about them.

Also, I looked up the thing about a saytr being a girl and it said that in mythology they're called saytresses so possibly but not as likely as a demigod.

Reyna~I've gotta be on my own~ | 56 comments I also don't really want Meg to be a love interest. I'm still attached to the idea of Reyna and Apollo getting together but if Rick sets it up like that I'm sure he'll do it correct and make me love it. Still hoping for Reyna and Apollo though.

Mikki Elodie the Ravenclaw Faery (mikaylahannah) | 16 comments I think a child of Iris would be really cool. We have no idea what powers that child could possess (besides making rainbows).

I don't think that the subtitle, Hidden Oracle, has something to do with Apollo or Rachel. It might be something else and would probably be the reason for a quest. I don't think that there would be any prophecy with Apollo being mortal. Notice in that in the Last Olympian, Rachel said that something happens to her gift of prophecy. It was gone? Perhaps. So...

A child of Iris is pretty interesting! She might have the ability to communicate with long distances, just like her mom. ^^

A child of Iris would be cool... I mean, we had Butch, but he didn't really do much.
I reckon I won't mind who Meg's parent is. It would be pretty cool if she's daughter of a minor god/goddess; it would be cool if she's daughter of Demeter (in my opinion); it would even be pretty cool if she was daughter of Poseidon, and like Percy's half-sibling (however unlikely).
I wonder if we'll be seeing any other new character (that's important, which I'm assuming Meg is). I would think so, but who knows? Maybe we'll get a child of Demeter and a child of Iris!
I also agree that those people at the end of BoO who were with Nico will probably be more important (Cecil and that girl, and of course Will).
What do you think?

I love the idea of a minor god being her parent! She's not a satyr (unless she somehow manages to hide a pair of hooves in her clothes) and I sincerely believe that she is frightened and alone at this point. What I don't understand is how she has been able to hide for this long without being claimed or being killed (the typical fates of demigods) Has someone been hiding and protecting her?

Demeter and Iris would be cool; we don't have any main characters of those two. Instead of a minor god being her parent, I think that it may be Hermes instead. Hermes and Apollo had a lot of run ins in Greek mythology; granted, most of which Apollo was being tricked but that's to be expected with someone like him (still love him though) Since Hermes is the God of travelers and Meg stumbled upon Apollo it could make sense. Having a chance to see more of Travis and Connor would be amazing too; Tratie, anyone? Plus, since Meg hasn't shown any powers yet, it might add up to a daughter of Hermes. Not going to lie though, if one day she sneezes and a rainbow shoots out I'll still be pretty happy about her heritage ;D

I'll admit, at the beginning, I did kind of think she was Hermes' daughter, mainly because if she was anything else I feel like we would've got some clues.

But I don't know... if it is Hermes, I'll be kinda disappointed because I think Rick will have missed an opportunity, but to be honest, I don't think I'll mind, because for some reason I still feel like we're going to have another new character.

And I just thought of something! If Apollo does go on quests similar to PJO, and he meets gods... his relationship with them will be so cool. I cannot wait for some god to god scenes!!!
