ABANDONED. Book about a boy who talks to ghosts

Hi everyone!

I am on a bit of a wild goose chase. I have a good friend whose birthday is fast approaching and we spend a lot of time hanging out at this really cool, quirky bookstore.

The last time we were there, he was telling me he was looking for a particular book...whose title I cannot recall...in which the main character is a little boy who talks to ghosts.

My friend is very into suspense, thriller, and scifi/fantasy novels. After a bit of searching, I came across the Johnny Maxwell Trilogy and thought that this might be the series my friend was looking for.

I was curious to know if anybody had any other ideas about other books that feature a boy who talks to ghosts. I really want to get this right and surprise him.

If it's an older book, a longshot possibility might be Ghosts WhoWent to School, by Judith Spearing. Ghosts Who Went to School
