Carly was born to Derek Lacy and Emerald Lacy. When Carly was 3 years old, her mother gave birth again. Derek thought his wife would survive this birth, but she didn't. Emerald Lacy, Carly's mom, died while giving birth. Derek named the baby Alice. Since then, Carly has been living with her younger sister and father. Derek blames Alice a lot for his wife's death. He is often mean to Alice and beats her and makes her kneel on grits. When the shifter genes from the late Emerald Lacy showed up in both Carly and Alice, Derek sent both the girls off to SSS.

Personality:
- Quiet: Jade doesn't like to talk. She often stares at the ground or up at the sky. In her quietness, she likes to play instruments such as piano, guitar, violin, and flute. When she gets in trouble, she doesn't talk, not even a sound, doesn't look at anything but the ground, fumbles with her fingers, and hides inside her shell.
- Curiosity: She is dangerous when she is curious. There is no telling what she will do just find out a small answer or details. She could lead herself into a fight and wouldn't care as long as she would get to know whatever she wanted to know.
- Mysterious: Jade has never told anybody about her past. Then again nobody has ever asked her, which she would like to keep it so. She has always kept her time in the forest, except where she needs to be hidden and safe inside the academy. She doesn't talk to anyone, which is what makes her even more mysterious.

Likes: Music, quiet, shadows, dark, apples, sleeping, and anything that catches her attention

History: Jade was raised like most children. Two parents and at least one annoying sibling. Unfortunately where she lived was being attacked by people who hated the shape-shifters. Jade, being young and hardly knowing how to control her shifting power, was taken to the academy along with her brother. Her parents work close, in a city only a few hours away.

Carmen is sassy, to put it simply. She really doesn't care about making friends or creating an image in the academy. If there was any animal that accurately described her personality, it would have been a feral dog, but since avian shifting is in her blood, she is stuck with a parrot. A first impression of her would normally involve her being defensive and rude, but around her friends she's... pretty much the same way, but less toned down. She can be funny, and loves to laugh at other people and herself.

Since the foundation of the Navajo tribes in what is now Utah and Colorado, the Johnson family had Shifter blood in their veins. After years of persecution and constantly moving around, Carmen and the rest of her family lives in the town around the SSS. The only shifters in her family are Carmen's little sister Kiki (she shifts into a chicken hawk), her father, and Carmen herself. Because of all the moving around, they normally reside in small rental apartments, and carry few possessions. Carmen secretly loves her family dearly, but never really says anything to them.
