A.J. Fikry admits to not completing his reads of Proust and "Infinite Jest." What book(s) have you said that you have read but in truth have not?

Paradise Lost and just about anything by Henry James. College required reading that I hated and skimmed enough to write papers / answer questions, but did not completely read.

I loved this book and did not want it to end,I highly recommend all book lovers read this .You will laugh, cry and be surprised.

There is only one book that I have marked as read that I got half way through and never finished it. "The Corrections" But I did pick up not one but two copies of the book since then and I will read it again one day. It got such good ratings. Maybe I wasn't in a good place in my life when I tried to read it the first time.

None. If I don't like a book I don't read it or if I read it and don't like it that much I won't lie about it. There is absolutely no one I want to impress with my taste in books.

My Antonia and On The Road - University reading that I just skimmed through. I do really, really mean to go back to them!

Oh, and a weird book that a colleague of mine wrote and self-published - he was an older guy and it had a lot of sex scenes and as I read, I could hear it in my head in his voice - scarred me for life, I won't be picking THAT up again!!

Yikes to the colleague book and I didn't like On the Road, but I will push My Antonia. I loved it for its imagery & symbolism. In fact, I went on to read a lot of Cather after that since I liked it so much.

The Bible. I have never gotten through all of the old testament or Revelations, but I think I've read enough to get the gist of the thing.

Also, in grammar school I remember writing book reports for two years in a row on Black Beauty, which I never actually read.

In high school I pretended to have read Portrait of a Lady by Henry James.

But, usually now I admit what books I have not read, since there is no grade attached.

There is a book on my bookshelf that sits and stares at me like a menacing Buddah; it is Tolstoy's WAR and PEACE. At first I thought that it was the size that intimidated me; however, ANNA KARINNINA is equally as robust and that I loved. Could it be the topic, could it be that I don't read many Russian authors or could it be that it's just not my cup of tea? I have tried many times and failed = mea culpa !

I'm with Judith. None. In my old age, I stop reading when a book doesn't appeal to me, and being very opinionated, I am happy to tell people why. lol

I could say War and Peace, but I actually finished it. It only took me about 10 years. I hate books about war so I read this only when there was nothing else to do, such as it was the only book available when I was hospitalized.

Bleak House by Dickens in University. I know... Dickens right? Everyone LOVES Dickens, but I just could not get through it! I do regret it though....

All the Harry Potter books! I know. I know.

I only have one book I lied about reading. It was a self-published book written by a friend of a friend. I got through about a third and varely skimmed the rest - it was really, really bad.

The only book i pretended to have read but had not done so was in high school (i had to do a book report and i didn't want to finish the book): Moby Dick. I gave it another try a couple years ago, but still couldn't get into it.

Donna I'll second Moby Dick; kicked under the bed both in HS and later as a guilty-Lit-major adult, trying again. Like most of Hemingway's stuff, I call MB ...more
