Readers: Feel free to post a topic of interest to you by clicking into Reader Discussions and then at the top-right hand side of the page click New Topic. That hot new Space Opera book, book series, television series or movie which caught your interest are all fair game!

Authors & Bloggers: Please do not open a false thread as an excuse to promote your own book or drop your book links into existing threads unless specifically asked for a recommendation. Readers consider it exceptionally rude to be bombarded with advertising when they come to Goodreads to discuss their favorite books. We have a Self-Promotion thread if you want to drop in your book excerpt and buy links. Any spammy posts or comments will be deleted!

What are the rules about old threads? Say I find one that is a topic I would like to discuss, would you rather I create a new thread or resurrect the old one?

I say resurrect the old one so people have context.

That's weird, because you lose all context as to what brought up your reply. For me, half the fun of Goodreads Groups is the super long threads that seem to go on for a months or years.

When you post in an older thread which has dropped in rank, it tends to 'bump' it up back to the top of the list. Goodreads ranks according to newness. So usually resurrecting an old thread you find interesting is better if you want to touch base with the people who originally posted in it, especially HERE where the topics up for discussion tend to be highly technical. However, it's all optional.

Posting on the old thread to my mind is preferable. If people's settings are still to get notified when someone posts on the thread then they will see that you have made a comment and can comment if they want. I still have myself set to receive a notification if someone posts on a thread concerning Pride and Prejudice that is months old.
