The murder is so tragic :(

I started listening last night and will continue tonight for a bit. I agree that the murder was tragic. The two things that have bothered me so far are that Sam decided early who she wanted the murderer to be, and that she let Nick watch her interview / interrogation.

I thought the murder and the fact that she was pregnant was very tragic and I don't think the senator has anything to do with it . The baby might not have been his!

Freddie and Elin , I like Elin . I get why his mother doesn't like her ,what I don't understand is why Sam doesn't like her.

I liked Christina's reaction to Gonzo's baby news. My guess is the baby is going to end up living with him and Christina.

About Peter , I'd be very pissed if he's sprung and more pissed if he has another book dedicated to him! (hide spoiler)]

Since I was listening, I'm not sure which chapter. It's more that she was disappointed that her preferred suspect wasn't panning out and said so.

Especially as I agree with you about the senator and the baby. Actually, I agree with you about both babies.

As for Sam not liking Erin, I think she's a little overprotective. Plus, the way Erin talked during the murder investigation didn't fit with Freddie ' character. She's like the sterotypical older brother.

Chapter 17

Too many things are going on in this book!

(view spoiler)[ I agree with ShoSho - there's a lot going on in this one, but I like that we keep new characters and relationships coming.

The suspense part of the ending was sort of expected, but the personal parts were a surprise.

I thought the crime aspect of the plot was a little better put together than the previous books. Just imagine if something like that actually happened!

I liked that Gonzo took to being a father, but I still have a bias from the first book about Christina.

Elin, has consistently been my least favorite. I was surprised by the ending, however.

Nick and Sam - sad ending. I suspect they'll adopt Scotty. Then she'll probably have lots of kids.

Love how this couple grows, if they have problems they don't let them fester.

I like how Sam allows Nick more access than you'd usually see but then again if you like Castle you'll accept.

Favorite parts are really all in the relationships, I love how MF has grown each couple and thrown a monkey wrench in their lives. Makes them more interesting and the reader more accepting of side bars away from the main couple.

Crime from horrible and more so if your female.

I love how the plot never sits still and takes a deep breath to resettle you. I think this is why it becomes a page turner. Also MF does a good job in wrapping it up but not beating you about the head with to many details.

Can you see this happening (crime)? I for one have no difficulty with thinking it could. I also liked how the Senator lost all the things important to him because of his libido. But, MF some how made him to be someone who should have some sympathy (he loved her and in my mind regardless if she loved him, she tricked him first). As a writer's challenge that was a decent hill to climb and MF did it.

Terrible loss at the end, you keep hoping that they'd catch that final rainbow. But then again, it's a very good plot device and makes Sam vulnerable.

I actually liked this better the second time around (re-read).

(view spoiler)[ This is my problem with books that have rape in them , they affect my psyche like this. I understand why authors insist on including rape when they want to torture a character . This is the worst thing that can happen to a woman .But I really don't want to read them in every book. And this one was very descriptive !

Yes and I loved it, the novella is worth reading definitely. It's not all fluff like most wedding novellas. TG.

Best so far, I think so. Roles are more established and are now branching out to include others more as we move forward. LOL that could change though but up through book 3 I think it's my favorite. The series is building a good history.

IMO this was the best murder mystery. Nothing too ridiculous in it. My only problem was that the murderer was too stupid with leaving all that DNA on the scene and letting a cop see his body and eyes. And I don't get his motive for killing Regina and Maria. He'd been running this business for 12 years and with immigrant women. There must have been other women who quit or got pregnant. Did he kill everyone who quit?
Also it was a bit graphic for me. I read things worst than this but I wasn't expecting anything like this from this book and it gave me a nightmare!

I was disappointed that Elin didn't show up, it tells the reader that Freddie's instincts are not reliable.

I loved the stuff about Gonzo, Christina and the baby. They were my favorite side story in this book.

One thing that really bothered me was the miscarriage. Let me tell you why.
Sam knew she might be pregnant, she was almost sure. She had miscarried a few times and knew it might happen to her again. If this pregnancy was important for her she should have taken care of herself. She had this officer following her along , she told him not to interfere, went ahead with the arrest and got a kick(or was it a punch) to the gut and lost the baby! She deliberately put herself and their baby in danger because she wanted o be the one to arrest the killer. It doesn't make sense to me!!!! I know she has a career that's important to her but it doesn't justify putting her unborn child in danger. She might have lost baby anyway later if she hadn't done this. But her action doesn't tell me she's someone who really wants to get pregnant and have a baby.

Overall I liked this book better than the first 2 and I'm giving it 3.5 stars

I agree with you about the mystery being more solid. However, I didn't think that the attacker's behavior was consistent. Given that the person was associated with a scheme so well protected that few knew about it, I don't believe that would lead him to be so reckless with DNA.

The book also had waaaay too much going on. I liked each of the characters' subplots, but felt there were too many of them. There were important life events for Sam, Nick, Freddie, and Gonzo. It was like a bucket of drama being dumped on the reader's head.

What was the reasoning? Just showing how dedicated she was to slamming the door on the killer? Or how "tough" she was to endure the pain? EXACTLY!! I was thinking the same thing when I read this series originally.

Are we reading the story/book that comes between this book and the next? It's not exactly short, and I think 180 pages is a bit long for a novella. But, it's numbered 3.5:

Finished and loved it!
(view spoiler)[So far this is my fave book of the series because I'm getting to know the characters more. I'm glad Elin didn't show for dinner with Freddie. The more I thought about it the more I thought They were wrong for each other. I was probably influenced by Sam's opinion!

I'm love Gonzo's new role as a father. When he fell in love with his child as soon as he saw that dimpled chin I had to wipe a tear away and that Christine is standing by his side makes this story even better.

I hate that Peter got out but this is what could happen in real life if the law is not followed to the letter. I've seen it happen before.

I'm happy these politicians got caught and don't feel sorry for any of them at all but do feel sorry for their families. I'm not surprised that they left their DNA all over the place. We had a president who did that too. They think they're not going to get caught! Well think again!!

Jeannine's rape was so brutal. It's something that will take a while for her to recover from and that's what I feel the author was trying to portray. This affects her mostly of course, but it sends a ripple effect to her loved ones too! Michael, her mom, her peers....everyone in her circle is affected.

Now as far as Sam and Nick. Wow! There's a lot going on. I hope Nick and Sam adopt Scotty. I can see that happening! He's perfect and will fit in with their family. I'm mad at Sam for chasing down the murderer. She should have had one of the officers on her detail pursue him! That she lost her baby because of that is on her! This also looks like Gonzo and Freddie are getting close to finding more clues on who shot Skip.

I'm looking forward to reading book 3.5 because I love romance and weddings!! I love this series and so far it's 5 stars for me! (hide spoiler)]

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Scotty and I hope now Sam might reevaluate her priorities if what happened didn't teach her anything else (still don't get who would do this).
