Shane Phillips I could not find it but does the Goodreads audiobook editions have the length/duration? I listen to 95% audiobooks / 5% paper books and would be nice to see the length or even sort by it.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I agree. Unfortunately, the book page only asks for "pages" & the librarians often don't add the info. When they do, I believe they make it 1 page per hour rounded up. I would think 1 page per minute would be preferred. Might be a hold over from the media. Sometimes each tape or CD is listed as a page.

I do wish Goodreads' web guys (whoever they are) would let us input audio length. I don't even know who to contact or I'd email them. I use Audible or audio publishers to check an audiobook's length at the moment.

Scott S. | 723 comments There would have to be an option for multiple entries, as many books have more than one narration. Length for versions of the same book can vary by hours based on the narrator's pace.

A book by a different narrator is listed separately.

ElaineY | 11 comments I found the contact for Goodreads. Here's their reply:
Hi Elaine,

Thanks for the feedback! Adding Audiobook Length and word counts for books are great suggestions and I'm sure very useful for librarians - so I am hoping we'll be able to see this feature soon! We'll definitely take this into consideration as we continue to improve the site.

Please let us know if you have any other feedback or suggestions to pass along!

Best,
Debbie

Specs Bunny (specsbunny) | 497 comments Thanks Elaine for sharing this.
Looks promissing - I would really like this feature on GR.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) In the meantime, you can always take the extra step & look the book up as if to buy on Amazon or some place else. There you'll generally find the duration. I tend to stick to books from my local libraries & can find it on their sites, although it usually doesn't matter to me. I have found that it can be useful in determining if a book is abridged or not. Sometimes that's not clear & I typically avoid abridged books.

message 9: by Shane (new)

Shane Phillips Hope they do add it. I do have the duration in iTunes (where I put my overdrive or library audiobooks. I don't save any just read and delete). Anyway wish there was a way to add a comment with duration. It's nice to say I have a 8 hour drive is there a book that I could do in that time.

Dee (austhokie) | 2001 comments this was something that I asked about while I was at the GR Power Users summit a few weeks ago - no word on if they would be able to do it or not

message 11: by Shane (new)

Shane Phillips Wow I want to go to a power users summit

Alejandro Heracles al-Mu'minin (jamcity) | 42 comments For now I guess we will have to use %s and do a little calculating ourselves when we update.

If you have a WhisperSync edition you could quickly go to the ebook which would place you on the page you are at.

Cool. Can you tell us more about the summit? How did you get invited? Who hosted? Topics discussed?

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2001 comments sure - it was a trial program that GR did in early October - there were about 20 of us invited

we were divided into 4 groups - moderators, librarians, reviewers and shelvers (those that do cool/unique shelving names etc) - I was there in the moderator group (I mod about 6 different groups here; we also had Kara who moderates the moderator group and 2 others)

the day was broken up into different sessions - we did some Q&A's with the engineers who were looking for ways to make our jobs easier - what would we as moderators like to see (I know I brought up the ability to move a post from one thread to another)

we got to have a chat with Otis; there was a guy who does like marketing type research who did a session with us (basically the questions were around, where/how does reading fit into our lives). then a happy hour with everyone; dinner and that was about it.

It was a really quick trip (only a day out there); but they are talking about potentially doing more in the future

Grumpus | 473 comments Sounds like a great trip. I'm happy to hear Goodreads does this kind of thing. They are cutting edge and by far, my favorite site.

Dee (austhokie) | 2001 comments i know the overall consensus was that we hope they do it again and open it up to more people/make it longer - one day was really busy and we would have loved more time in pretty much all of the sessions that we did

ETA - we didn't talk specifically about audiobooks in any of the sessions, but I got to talk to Otis during the happy hour and we talked a little bit about audiobooks and about how the challenge feature could be fixed to make it more usable

Stacy Boyles (cwf1965) | 162 comments Dee, speaking of challenges, I participate in 4-5 challenges. I always go back and edit my posts to add info on my completed books. Is this the way you believe it is supposed to be done? For some reason I think some people repost their lists with the read dates and ratings etc. I'm just curious how others do it. I wish I could go somewhere on my home page and see my challenges and my penpal and tbr pals name and book choice for me. This could even be something I add myself once I set them up.

message 19: by Shane (new)

Shane Phillips Challenges? I only know of the 2015 book challenged to read so many books in a year

message 20: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2001 comments Stacy - are you talking about challenges in groups? I think that just depends on the group and how they want to handle it

Otis' challenge questions revolved around the challenge widget and how it could be of more use to groups that do lots of challenges - since I mod a challenge group

message 21: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Boyles (cwf1965) | 162 comments Dee- yes for example I have a TBR challenge for each quarter this year. I also do another challenge that usually runs 4 times a year. I wish I could see my challenges on my home page instead of having to hunt for them in the groups. I also sign up each month with one or both of the TBR pal and Pen pal challenges which are part of the Bookworm Bitches. It would be nice to have a place on the home page that we can put the book we are to read for those challenges. I don't start these on the 1st of each month. I have the whole month and we choose the books for each other the 15th of the month before. I tend to forget which books I need to get at the library or buy. Does that make sense?
