Sarah Avery (sarahavery) | 17 comments I just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a novella that Black Gate bought, but handed back when they stopped publishing fiction. It's the origin story for the heroine of "The War of the Wheat Berry Year," which appeared in the Black Gate's last print issue.

Since then, I won the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Tales from Rugosa Coven, and some of my short stories have appeared in Fantasy Scroll Magazine and Jim Baen's Universe. I coedited a themed anthology, Trafficking in Magic, Magicking in Traffic, which featured stories by Darrell Schweitzer, Elizabeth Bear, and James Enge.

You can check out the campaign to publish "The Imlen Bastard," with cover art and -- stretch goals willing -- lavish interior illustration by the awesome British artist Kate Baylay (http://www.katebaylay.com/). World Fantasy Award winning editor Betsy Mitchell, formerly of Del Rey, will edit the manuscript. C S E Cooney, author of Bone Swans, will narrate the audiobook version if we unlock that goal.

I'm so proud of this project. Come see!

Sarah, you are not helping me :). I am becoming increasingly sucked into Kickstarter. Your project looks nice, and I like how you worked in review services into the rewards. Congrats on the award. The stretch goal illustrations by Kate Baylay would be particularly awesome. Best of luck.

OK, I went for basic eBook. Kind of funny. Kickstarter replied :"you are a backer now" and I read it as "you are a Bastard now."

Sarah Avery (sarahavery) | 17 comments Thank you! (Am I under the Kickstarter geas to say "Send all your friends," now? Yeah, I probably am. Man, I want to see those illustrations.

Have you been reading Sebastien de Castell's Greatcoats series? Traitor's Blade was my favorite book of 2014, and it looks like Knight's Shadow will hold the title for 2015. I love that series.

Anyhow, in Knight's Shadow, we see the rise of a group known as Brasti's Bastards. If ever de Castell needed to crowdfund anything, I'd pledge a sizable chunk of money to be an honorary Bastard.
