Artemis walked in and sat tiredly down on one of the couches. She had just gotten back from a mission and was told to check on the team, but no one seemed to be here at the moment.
KJ, who was currently in the kitchen, heard someone come in. With her sandwich in hand, she made her way to the lounge, curious about who it was. Bruce, well, Batman had instructed her to stay there for the day, until he called her to come home. Well, KJ thought that it sucked. Banished from her home. So she had passed the time exploring until her stomach demanded for food.
"Oh hello, Artemis," she said calmly. "What happened?" She continued casually, although she was internally freaking out. What had happened? Was Bruce okay?
"Oh hello, Artemis," she said calmly. "What happened?" She continued casually, although she was internally freaking out. What had happened? Was Bruce okay?
Artemis looked up as KJ walked into the room. "The joker teamed up with Vandal Savage and Sportsmaster to attack Gotham." She replied. "There were some injuries..."
KJ had sat down with her sandwich, which was on a plate, on the coffee table. She was about to begin eating when Artemis mentioned that people were injured. "Who was injured?" she questioned, giving Artemis her full attention. KJ concealed her worry quite well, except for her eyebrows. They were drawn together, mentally playing out scenarios about who got hurt and how. Her sandwich was completely forgotten.
"Not too many. Miss Martian, Aqualad, and.." Artemis paused for a second, trying her best to keep her emotions in check. "Flash. Everyone else is perfectly fine though."
KJ let out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. "I'm sorry," she apologized sympathetically. "Is anyone seriously hurt?" she asked. Although she was beyond glad that Dick and Bruce weren't hurt, it was still horrible that Miss Martian, Aqualad, and the Flash had gotten injured. And KJ could see how in love Artemis was with the Flash. If she was in Artemis's shoes, she certainly would be upset.
"Miss Martian just got hit in the head and knocked out and Aqualad just has a broken wrist.." Artemis said, but she really didn't want to talk about Wally's injuries. She knew that she would break once she started talking about how hurt he was.
KJ listened for what had happened to Wally, wanting to know what had happened, but knew it would be difficult for Artemis. Well, the Flash. KJ knew that Wally was the Flash, as he was over at her house quite often. It wasn't hard to put two and two together, just like how he had found out about her. Wally was practically part of their messed up family. "Is it bad?" KJ quietly asked, placing a comforting hand on Artemis's arm.
Artemis nodded. "It's really bad..." She responded quietly. Artemis knew that she should be with him, but the others wouldn't let her. They said that she needed to relax and sent her away.
Quiet fell upon the room as they both thought about Wally. "Is Wally.. still alive?" KJ asked almost inaudibly, hoping for the best but worrying about the worst. She felt like crying, but kept it inside. Artemis needed someone, and KJ was the only one there. So she would be that someone. She had totally forgotten that Artemis didn't know about her background, let alone how she knew that the Flash was Wally West.
"Yeah." Artemis nodded, not even caring to know how she knew that the flash was Wally. She just wanted to know that he was ok. "But he...may never walk again..."
KJ widened her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Artemis," she sympathized. "I can't believe how hard this is for you, and for Wally in the future. Is he conscious?" she questioned.
Artemis shrugged. "I don't know they won't let me see him. He was unconscious like an hour ago on the way back though." She was trying so hard not to break down right now.
((I really wish someone was Wally right now))
((I really wish someone was Wally right now))
Kasey could see her struggle fighting the tears. "Crying and sadness isn't weakness. It's just something that shows that you've been strong for too long," she quoted quietly. "I won't judge. I know how much you love each other," KJ commented. "I've known him for a while, and he just lights up whenever he talks about you. D-Nightwing just rolls his eyes, but Wally really does love you. I'm sure he'll be asking for you soon," Kasey, aka Shadow (the name Artemis knows her by), responded. She then shut up, waiting for Artemis's response.
"Wally tells me that all the time..." Artemis said. She listened to her talk about Wally and smiled lightly. "That's kind of Dick's thing, rolling his eyes at everyone...but mostly me and Wally." Artemis finally decided to let her tears fall.
"Yes, classic Dick. He rolls his eyes all the time. Especially when he's with me. I feel like one of these days his eyes will just pop out," KJ joked in an attempt to lighten the mood. Although she was relieved that Artemis knew Dick's name. Did that mean that Artemis knew about her? And Bruce? She made a mental note to question Dick or Artemis about this later, as the girl was clearly emotional and didn't need to be interrogated. She began to cry and KJ just sat there quietly, letting Artemis let everything out.
Artemis stopped crying and sipped the tears from her eyes. She finally felt ready to talk about what happened to wally. "He had been rescuing kids from a burning orphanage... Wally got all the kids out, but there was still a dog inside so he went back in to get the dog. He was just exiting the building as it exploded... Wally got hit all the way across his back."
"The Joker, Vandal Savage, and Sportsmaster set an orphanage on fire in Gotham?" she wondered aloud, curious about the ulterior motives for something so.. normal. "I'm so sorry about Wally. Are you going to see him as soon as he's conscious?" Shadow asked as Artemis wiped her face. Kasey quickly plucked a tissue from the box on the coffee table, handing it to her.
"It was a distraction..." Artemis said. She nodded. "Yes." She took the tissue from her. "Thanks."
"I wonder what for," Shadow thought aloud. "I should've been there," she muttered under her breath. The more people there, the easier it would have been to help out. Then maybe Wally wouldn't be hurt. Artemis took the tissue from her hand and thanked her, to which Kasey just gave a small smile.
"It was so they could break out a group of Meta-humans that Star Labs had been containing." Artemis said. "Joker, Vandal Savage, and Sportsmaster were all part of the distraction. We have no idea who they're working for or who they broke out."
KJ's phone buzzed, to which she quickly picked up, not letting it ring more than once. "What do I need to do?" she questioned. The person on the other line began to talk, but Shadow cut them off. "I've already heard this. Just cut to the chase," she replied seriously. Kasey listened to the person on the other end, which was Batman. She then responded"okay, I'll bring her up to speed. Shadow out," hanging up and looked at Artemis.
"We now know who they broke out. Just not who broke them out. One of the escapees has a tracker in them. We injected it when she was unconscious, so they don't have a clue about it," Kasey smiled. "I'll have to trace it. Want to come with?" she asked, picking up her plate. It would have to wait until after.

Artemis nodded. "That's good." She said. Artemis stood up. "Sure. I don't really have anything else to do except wait for Dick to call about Wally anyway."
Angel was supposed to meet the new team here tonight, his mask was off and he was looking at the photo he took at school. His day couldn't possibly get worse, he was having the best day of his life. Finally putting his mask on and over his face he couldn't be recognized. Taking one more look at the photo before putting it away in a secret pocket he had.
Kasey drove home from cheerleading practice and checked in with her dad before zeta tubing from the Batcave to Mount Justice. She walked into the Lounge only to find the last person she wanted to see. "What are you doing here?" she asked, glaring at him. She tried her best to look mad, but she was ecstatic about the day. Practice went well, she met that boy Connor, and training was actually extremely fun. Then there was later when she'd meet up with Connor. She pulled her phone from who knows where on her suit, which had a life proof case on, different from earlier that day, where it had just been the original rose gold backing. She texted him to see if he wanted her to pick him up, then set her phone on the couch and sat down. "First you're in the Watchtower when I go see Wall, and now you're here," she observed, looking at him suspiciously. Shadow's hands flew to her face to check if her mask was on, and it thankfully was.
Angel chuckled, " well see, I may not like being on a team and think I am all that but I do listen to Wally. He is like a dad to me so I do listen. Even if I don't like it. " he actually tried to sound nice. " don't worry.. Even if I did see your face I wouldn't care. Eventually supposidly the team revealed deepest darkest secrets". He stood up and checked his phone, smiling. But just barely so hopefully she wouldn't see. Texting the girl back from earlier. Then putting the phone away, just as quickly as he got it out.
Shadow had a small smile on her face, barely noticeable. She didn't smile much when she was working and trying to keep a secret identity. "Wally's like my brother. My annoying, protective older brother. Same with Nightwing," her smile was a little bigger now, but not by much. Then Shadow laughed silently, covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh like that's gonna happen," she sarcastically replied. "Considering my family doesn't know shit, I think I can keep my secrets a secret," she responded. She wasn't necessarily talking about her secret identity, she was actually speaking of her past. Her family knew hardly anything about what happened in the foster care system and while she was out on the streets leading up to when the Joker tortured her. Kasey checked her phone only to see the response of 'The Docks'. So that's where she would head after she left later. She locked her phone and leaned back in her seat, putting her feet up. She sometimes wished she didn't choose such a tight costume. But she knew she looked hot in it. Sometimes though, she wished she could just wear yoga pants, which she wore to training on a daily basis.
" stop making me smile! I am supposed to hate you and not like you, not sit back and have a good conversation with. " Angel glared at her. Running over to the snack area and grabbing some popcorn, leaving it in his hand he starts to shake his hand really fast. The friction causing the popcorn to pop and fill up the bag.
Kasey flashed him a grin. "But I'm so likeable," she joked. "Especially at my school." After all, she was captain of the cheerleading team. He then whizzed past her and grabbed popcorn, which she oddly enough didn't like. She walked over to the snack area and began to make an Italian soda. "You want some?" she offered. She put the whipping cream into the cup as well as ice, beginning to pour strawberry and vanilla syrup into the large glass. "There's a ton of flavored. Just choose one and I'll mix it," she smiled. She was a master at mixing any kind of drink. It was like a gift. She could seriously mix all of the drinks at a fast food place and it would actually taste amazing.
" I hate Italian soda" Angel laid back on the couch. Throwing it up into the air and catching it with his mouth. Each one he caught with no trouble but it was still fun. " and no your not likeable. Your bratty, your self centered, and you probably won't even be a good match for this team" He smirked but hid it so she couldn't see. He was trying to mess with her head.
"Well I hate popcorn," she told him, a look of disgust on her face. She grabbed a little bowl of m&ms and took her Italian soda with her to the chair opposite the couch. "Well you're one to talk," she laughed. "You're selfish, cocky, and conceited. Considering I work with Batman, I think I can handle being on the team. He didn't meet me until years after I began the hero thing, and it's only because I saved his ass," she smirked. "And as for the bratty remark, I'm only like that to people I am not fond of. I don't see the reason to waste time putting on a smile and being friendly. I'm not here to make friends. I'm not even going to start on the self-centered remark, mainly because I'm done clarifying and corrected who I am to a biased boy who doesn't give a shit," she sipped on her soda and then threw a m&m high up in the air, catching it in her mouth.
Angel got up faster than a blink of a eye. Spilling his popcorn all over the floor. " well you know. At least I can have a family who I actually talk to and can share things with. You don't have a family, you aren't worthy of a family, all you get is people who you have truly never met. " He was trying to scratch a nerve but he wasn't quite sure if it would work. She seemed pretty chill. But knowing batman, if she actually trained with him then she would have his temper as well.
Kasey glared at Angel. "Considering my family is deceased and I'm a fucking orphan, I can't talk with them. They're all dead. My parents, my little sisters," she was shaking with anger, although it didn't show in her voice. "You no nothing about me. Don't act like you do at all. So shut up and don't assume what other people's lives are like. I doubt you've been through hell," she replied seriously with a tad of bitterness in her voice, proceeding to answer her ringing phone.
"Yes?" she asked, obviously a bit upset. KJ didn't bother to look at the caller ID. "Oh hi," she softened. "Sorry I snapped. I didn't know it was you," she told the person on the other end. "Are you kidding me?" she sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "How about I come over to your house around 11 or 12 tonight and we can have a sleepover," she suggested. "I'm really sorry, but you'll get through this, girl. I'll be over later. You can text me whatever you want me to bring. Any junk food you desire," she smiled, hanging up.
Then she noticed that Angel was still there, and she scowled. She sure did have a temper, and he had pushed the right buttons. If he went to attack her with words again, she'd slap him across the face. He sure did deserve it.

" well how about you stop assuming you know about my life then. Because you have no idea what I've been through. So why don't you back off. We don't need you here and really don't want you here. " Angel snapped at her. " so go hang with you girl and don't bother showing up here again". He probably wouldn't have meant any of it if he wasn't so mad.
Kasey just sat there as tears filled her eyes, but she quickly blinked them back. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction in watching her cry. That just wasn't an option. So she took a deep breath and calmly replied. "I know more than you know. Wally talks as fast as he runs, and I can comprehend every word. So I've heard much about you. Shit you don't deserve to here," she narrowed her eyes. "So no, I'm not going to fucking back off. If I backed off, I'd have been dead by now. I'm on this team whether you like it or not, so suck it up. You can't dictate my actions. I'm not leaving this team. I am, however, going to head out. I'll be back when I'm needed. " she stood up and walked out of the room, not bothering to look back.
She got home and got dressed to go out, deciding to still go out despite her excess amount of anger. She listened to some music to calm her down then got in her car to leave. Kasey was going to the Docks.

Angel shook his head when she walked out. Looking at his phone he checked his texts message, texting the girl from school. " I am headed to the docks now, seeya soon. " he smiled when he sent the text. Walking back over to the snack counter he grabbed a Italian soda, truth was he didn't mind them. He just didn't want the satisfaction of her thinking he liked something of hers. Before finishing it he changed his ring back to looking normal, leaving it on a buzzing if anything tonight happened as a emergency here. Finally ready to go he ran out and was headed to the docks.
Marina walked into the lounge and sat down on the couch. She noticed that she was still in her hero costume. "Egnahc otni teerts sehtolc." She said. Her outfit changed into black, ripped jeans and a purple off the shoulder shirt with a skull on it and black tank underneath.
Galaxy portaled in, rising from her universal open in the ground before Marina on the couch. "Hello," She said slowly descended back to the ground.
KJ walked into the lounge and sat down on the couch, not bothering to make contact with the two girls. Although the portal chick did interest her.
