Benjamin, a wise donkey

The allegory was witty, however I could not grasp why Orwell identified a donkey (Benjamin) for a wise character?

It is seen a couple of times in the book that Benjamin understood the situation, implications but decided to keep mum, giving advise only where necessary. I think he was the wisest of all (apart from the pigs).

Is it his age, depicting portrait of a grandfather?

benjamen is represent in the novel represents the opinions of orwell against what happen in the soviet union.and he has the characters of orwell.wise.old and rear talk.

I've felt like the donkey represented the educated people. They see what is going on, but know, that any kind of intervention may cost them their lives. They prefer to kind of blend in.

Donkey is indeed a really unconventional choice of animal though. Dunno, maybe that's how they prefer to be seen by others?

Yeah, Benjamin the donkey was definitely conscious what was going on, even if he was certain that anything was going to change he kept working like the rest on the farm. Only a donkey would do that, isn't it?

Well, he did say a few times that "donkeys live for a long time" so maybe he was old. He's lived for donkey's years. (Sorry.)
