Michael Lewis (mll1013) | 128 comments Those of us who love sci-fi are always fascinated when the "fiction" turns into "fact" years later. One of my readers recently noted that an MIT paper nudges one of my story arcs closer to reality:

For you sci-fi authors, do you have any stories about how something you wrote about became plausible or actually happened?

Dennis Kitainik Not really, but I do have a story on the back burner which has to do with space manufacturing. (And also another one, also on the back burner, with the working title "The Airlock" -- that one has to do with a multinational ISS crew succumbing to international strife among their home countries).

Jay Cole (jay_cole) | 292 comments Years ago, a script centered around an asteroid mining company. Now, several commercial ventures are planning on mining both asteroids and the lunar surface for valuable minerals and the grand prize, Helium 3.

It'll be interesting to see if space mining ventures will be entirely robotic (as some companies plan) or if at some point we'll have miners living on the rocks they're mining.
