I'm totally with you on that. I think it would be interesting to see what they could all do!

No, that was new information.
I'm already finding this book much more engaging than book 1. I really struggled reading that one (actually the first time I gave up at 40% before picking it up a second time to do as a group read). I wonder if it is because we already know about John Hobbes so there is a level of suspense from the beginning.
This chapter also ended quite creepily with Ling (view spoiler)
Evie is as annoying as ever! I'm not surprised she has her own radio show. The descriptions of the time are excellent and I think the author is staying true to the language of the 'flappers' too. I really like that aspect of the book

LOL yes Evie is annoying.
I really like the description of time period too, the author makes believe these characters are living in 1920. It's one of things that makes the book stand out.

Yes! I'm really liking the new characters a lot. (view spoiler)

Anyway, I'm loving this book so far! It was SO easy to get into this story. I love Libba Bray's writing style, it's so effortless and easy to read. Her descriptions of New York the 20's are fantastic, too.
The characters are great, too! So diverse and unique from each other. And even though Evie usually appears so self-centered and shallow, I've always kind of liked her :) Maybe she'll get more annoying later in the book, but for now it's fun hanging out with her.
Oh Christina, thanks! I forgot about how the Diviners can get impacted by using their powers and hadn't even connected that with Ling.
I'm also reading Six of Crows which is awesome. I've been a little behind, so catching up on that one ; and then I can flick back to this book :)

Jericho is great, my favorite character in the book I think and I felt the same about what you said in the spoiler. I don't like those!

Other thoughts...
I'm going a little slow with this because other books keep pushing their way in (for Tower Teams goals!), but I am still enjoying it much more than book 1.
One of the storylines that has me fascinated is Will and his history. I hope we get to see more of him soon, if not now then in the next book.

That's true. Plus I think Mable meets her someone else in this book. I can't remember his name. But it's somewhere is the middle of the book. Tell me if you think so too ;)
Will history is very interesting, his relationship with his friend and fiance. I like to read more about it.
P.s.I'm not sure how far you are , I hope my comment is not a spoiler for you.
I'm just at the half way point :)
I haven't seen the 'someone else' yet, but now I will keep an eye out! (don't worry, I don't think that is much of a spoiler)

The End
Oh I really loved this book which is strange as usually I find book 2 of a series the weakest, but this was much better than book 1 I thought.

I didn't get the object 28 reference then. You got me thinking though. She could be. As for Jericho, I thought he wanted to say something but didn't, it seemed that he had some ideas

I liked Jericho a lot, too, and really missed his POV for most of this book. Although the book ended on a very intriguing note that makes me ever more excited to read the next book!

I agree. Although that scene [spoilers removed]"
Yep. This was one of the creepiest scenes by far! Although, maybe it's just me, but did either of you get a little tired by the end of the book with all these scenes of random people falling victim to the dreaming sickness? At first it was really interesting and I liked the creepiness, but after a while it just seemed repetitive and I just wanted to get back to the regular stories.
Yes I know what you mean. I was much more interested in the character relationships than the 'ghost story'. It was a bit of a side story for me, I wasn't too invested in it

I completely agree about Will's history! We see so little of him in this book. I have a feeling that the next book will be heavily focused on him. Spoiler for the end of the book (view spoiler)

I liked the Sam and Evie's "romance" during this book, too. Evie tends to aggravate me easily. She tries so hard to place up walls between herself and others that she tends to read like a caricature of a person instead of a real character. Sam brings out her emotions and makes her a softer, more relatable character despite their bickering.

I completely agree about this book being much better than the first book....and I really liked The Diviners! I'm glad the book was as long as it was because it really allowed for a lot of character and plot development. There are so many more subplot threads woven into the story now that it's going to (hopefully) make the third book even more exciting!

I hadn't noticed that while I was reading, but I bet you're right! (view spoiler)

was it implied that Ling was becoming attracted to Wai-Mae by the end of the book?
Yes I thought it weird but it was implied.

Interesting theory! I hadn't considered that possibility, but I think you're probably right.

I really, really liked reading this book. I hated that I had to read it in bits and pieces over a week and a half. I could have easily read this in a few days if I had the time. There are all these wonderful subplots and elements introduced, so the story is becoming more complex and richer. I'm so excited for book#3! I just hope it doesn't take more than a year to come out.
