Jack | 4 comments I prefer long series but they don't have to be. I love Brandon Sanderson's works, I have read Tolkien (Who hasn't), the Inheritance Cycle, Wizard of Earthsea, the Pern Novels, and many of the Star Wars books besides classics like Narnia as well. Do you have any Sci Fi or Fantasy suggestions along those lines.

message 2: by Margret (new)

Margret Red Rising (Pierce Brown), Lord of the Silver Bow (David Gemmell), Blood Song (Anthony Ryan) are first in trilogies that I can think of off the top of my head

Take a look at this group's bookshelf for some great ideas.

message 4: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Toponce (atoponce) Dune Chronicles by Frank and Brian Herbert. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

message 5: by Matt (new)

Matt Karwoski Foundation by Isaac Asimov is incredible and builds up very nicely over the three books. Dune was incredible but I only ever read the first one. I've heard great things about The Malazan Book of the Fallen for a long series.

Josh | 8 comments This book picker helped me discover new reads from favorite authors. Good way to shortlist books in the new year! https://public.tableau.com/profile/jo...

The Tattooed Book Geek (Drew). (thetattooedbookgeek) Malazan Book of The Fallen 10 book series, a truly great read. I also really enjoyed The Faithful and the Fallen series by John Gwynne, The Shadow Campaigns by Django Wexler and The Traitor Son Cycle series by Miles Cameron, all quality.

message 8: by Shelly (new)

Shelly (shellyandgretta) | 4 comments I love long series sadly the library for the blind is slow to get them. I want more like the demon wars books and the song of ice and fire.

message 9: by Chris (new)

Chris (chrisclpool) | 6 comments I second what drew said about malazan book of the fallen its epic, also first law trilogy is really good main character is sort of a anti hero

The Tattooed Book Geek (Drew). (thetattooedbookgeek) Agree with Chris about The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, it's a great read with some decent world building and a great set of characters.

message 11: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (dcolp) | 1 comments As some of the above posts point out I would definitely recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen if you haven't read this series yet. I have read lots of other fantasy series and for me this series tops them all. Be prepared however... it is a long and challenging read but also very rewarding.

Tom | 11 comments Malazan is a must read at some point, although some of the series did take some getting though.
The dark tower by Steven king. Is probably a good mix between fantasy and Sci fi for you.

message 13: by Willow (new)

Willow Sanderson is also one of my favorites, though there will always be a special place in my heart for Anne McCaffrey :). Would recommend the Assassins trilogy by Robin Hobb, starting with Assassin's Apprentice, and I also second the recommendations above for The Dresden Files (though anything by Jim Butcher is worth a read). Where Sanderson specializes in amazing magic systems and world building, Butcher really nails the dialogue and combat. Try his Codex Alera if you prefer epic fantasy to urban fantasy.

message 14: by Javier (new)

Javier (salvatemarty) | 5 comments Definitely Rothfuss' work (The kingkiller trilogy) is on the lines you've asked for, although the third book is not published and, according to what Rothfuss has done with #2, I think it will not be published soon. Personally I would strongly recomend the first law trilogy by Abercrombie. This is somewhat grimdark fantasy, not very much Tolkien like writing, but as Chris adn Drew already pointed out it has one of my favorite set of characters.

Malazan is FABULOUS! IT is a MUST read!

Concerning The First Law - LOL there's a main character? I'm halfway through the 3rd book and there are several points of view.

However I will wholeheartedly agree that it is an enjoyable read.

Ronald Culbertson | 72 comments Rebecca wrote: "An old series that is really good is The Death Gate Cycle. 7 books starting with Dragon Wing."

I LOVED this series I need to see about getting for my kindle and re-reading it as I ready it way back in my teens.

Ronald Culbertson | 72 comments You all should read Glen Cooks Black Company books if you have never read those they are some of my favorite dark fantasy.

Peter V. Brett Demon Cycle series
Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth series
David A. Wells Sovereign of the Seven Isles series
Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series
Anything by Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings, Robin Hobb and Weis and Hickman

And if that isn't enough message me for more. I've been a voracious reader for over 30 years so I have read a lot of books

message 18: by Craig (new)

Craig Jr. (craigapricejr) | 10 comments Cephrael's Hand if you like Wheel of Time.

Dreams and Shadows, and Woven Peril by Jeffrey Collyer is fantastic.

The Crimson Claymore only has the one book in the series so far and the prequel, but book 2 is supposed to be coming out soon.

message 19: by Kamiyo (new)

Kamiyo | 2 comments +1 For the Chronocles of Amber (though most of other books from Zelazny are very good as well)

What about other multi-author series, like Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance?

There are also Raimond Feist's the Riftwar cycle, Luyanenko's World of Watches series, Sapkowski's Witcher, Moorcock's History of Runestaff and many other series, which are pretty much classics in fantasy genre

message 20: by Ronald (new)

Ronald Culbertson | 72 comments Bradley P. Beaulieu “Songs of Shattered Sand”

message 21: by Mike (new)

Mike Arseneau (csprof) | 1 comments I'm sorry I couldn't get into Malazan at all. The writing is good and there are good stories but there are way too many stories. I found myself wanting to skip some parts.

Many of the series I like are listed but I did want to add:
Iron Druid by Kevin Hearne
Gentlemen Bastards by Scott Lynch
Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay
Sanctuary by Robert Crane

The Fionavar Tapestry is one of my all time favorites.
I have the Iron Druid series on my shelf but have yet to read them.
