Laeona Frank I really didn't enjoy this book. The characters where really annoying. The plot was good to start but it lost it in the middle of the book. The only character I like was Chuck but he died. All my friends like it but I don't. Was I the only one that didn't like this book?

Michelle Cronjè I enjoyed the series overall but I was also left with more questions than answers at the end. The whole plot of the series does not make sense. I watched the movies in the hope of finding out what exactly is going on and I was left more disappointed than ever, since the movies are NOTHING LIKE the books - at all! I agree that the concept was a good one but the author didn't think it through properly. It could have been a much more enjoyable book... but the flaws are just too many to handle and I cannot bring myself to say that I liked the book.

Ilana ironically it wasn't this first book in the series that i had an issue with. i really enjoyed the way that the story was set up and where it was going. it's book 2 - The Scorch Trials that i found to be tough to get through (even had to put it down numerous times before i finally finished it).

Gabby Wow, I thought I was one of the only ones who wasn't amazed by these books! I personally think they're okay, but they're not my favourite. I agree with a lot of what you said, ValiantPevensie4 (Great name by the way) and I love the movies (and NOT just because of Dylan O'Brien, the movies are actually great). The ending didn't even make sense to me (thinking about it now, the whole last book pretty much didn't even make sense). But while I can't say I hate them I can't say that I love them either. Think this is one of the first times were I think the movie(s) are better than the books!

No, no, no, I totally get what you mean! I just think "fake" fans are people that only pretend to like something because it is popular. Also, I think there's a difference between liking something and being a fan of something. You know what I mean? I like the Maze Runner books but I'm a fan of the movies, make sense? Probably not...

I don't think it matters what get's you into a book/a movie. I'm now reading The Martian because I saw the trailer and thought it looked awesome (and it also has Sebastian Stan in it, the awesome Bucky Barnes, so that's a bonus too).

I don't think liking a movie is better than the book is wrong. Unless you haven't read the book! Then you can't really make a well informed judgement, can you?

I don't mind the changes Wes has made (I think he's a fab director) but I think if I was more of a fan of the books I might get a little peeved lol. Kind of like The Mortal Instruments adaptations. I just think sometimes when you love a piece of text so much it's hard to see it changed...just have to remember it's an adaptation though (but some changes can be silly though haha...just like why would you change that?)

But no, I get you. It's like if someone said to people who like Shakespeare that they're a "fake fan" because they weren't there when it was written/supporting it from the start.

Kelly Brigid ♡ I agree with literally every word you've said in this discussion, Valiant, hahaha.

Yeah. It's not like they've claimed that they're completely sticking to the books 100% they've been upfront about it. I love all the new twists and stuff they have in the movie. Yes, the book has suspense etc but in the movie the stakes of it all seem to be much higher and more realistic, you know what I mean? The movies are much more easier to get into/stay into. I've read the Maze Runner once. Watched the move several times.

I guess it just depends on your definition of what a "fan" is and what a "big fan" is. I don't think anyone really has the right to bash on other people for loving what you love. And I agree with you, there's no right or wrong way to be a fan. You like something and you really enjoyed it and will continue to support it? Sorry to inform you, my friend, but your a fan.

I like to think about how fans come in all different shapes/sizes etc, just like people!

Yes. When watching the Scorch Trials I sat there thinking back to the book (I know it was a mixture between events in Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) and what happened. I love how the main events are still there but the build up to them is different. So awesome. Makes me more excited for the next movie, because I can't wait to see what elements etc that they've included!

Larose I heard the book was AMAZING! SO I was like 'Bruh, I gotta read it!'. I was disappointed. All the characters are flat, I never really had one to route for... The plot was confusing and didn't make sense. I really didn't like the book either... But that might just be me.

THe book is okay but some parts were boring and too many character changes, plot lines, ect.

I did not like it either. Most of the time, I felt like everybody was always going around in circles and not getting anywhere.

Lisa I did not like The Maze Runner at all, mostly because the ending was completely unresolved. I won't be reading the rest of the series. I thought the movie was okay, but I knew what to expect.

Hunger Games and Divergent seemed to at least have some type of resolution at the end of each book.

At first the book was really awesome but then went off a cliff and fell into boringville

Maria The concept seemed so interesting and smart......

And then the writing fell so completely flat. The characters were boring (especially Thomas) and there was so much extra content in the book that didn't need to be there. The story moved at glacial pace and if it weren't for the chapters at the end where the Gladers put the pieces together I would have given it an even lower rating.

Melissa Nicely I loved the concept, but I hated the way it was written. I thought the characters were flat and the story just seemed to drag on and on. Honestly, if a different author wrote it, I think it would be a huge success.

Reese I love the Maze Runner series. Laeona, have you read the next two books? If not, then I'd see why you didn't like it. I thought this book was action packed and awesome but, the end of the last book totally ticked me off. It was an interesting plot twist that I think, showed everyone The awesomeness in Dashner's writing. Atleast that's how I put it. I was also very disappointed with the movie. I love Dylan and I think he did an AMAZING job, but Director Wes took out my favorite part in the Scorch Trials movie.

Kassidy No, you are not the only one. As I started to read the book, I got very confused. I picked up on the plot soon, but still had multiple questions that I feel should have been answered. The description was either very vague and unanswered or it gave a lot away. There was not much suspense in my point of view. I feel like if a more experienced and more resourceful author would have wrote it, I would have continued on to finish the series. Usually, I am not the type of reader to "ditch" a book, but, sadly, I felt the need to put down the book after finishing it. I decided not to go on in the series due to the amount of confusion and question I had in this book. I hope this author can learn from this and maybe write and plan a little better next time.

Ha ha, I get it. I wasn't aMAZEd by it, either. Ha ha;)

Gabby McWethy You are not the only one. There were many unanswered questions, and it was just not very enjoyable. I feel like Tom will start thinking about something, but will completely drop the idea for whatever reason.

Insha Okay, so maybe you are not the only one. But first of all you need to get the fact that there are many incidents in the books, which haven't been included in the movie. Still the movies are like more than 2 hours. So it isn't really that easy to incorporate everything in the book into the movie. Second, movies are mostly never completely related to the book. If a book is really popular, and the audience wants it to be made as a movie, then producers check the demand for it. Then they make changes according to what they think the audience will love best. Yes, many are disappointed that the movies and the books have so much in difference. But people who are not book lovers wouldn't feel the difference (i personally love books a lot, so it has nothing to do with my opinion). If they include everything in the book into the movie, then they would get less demand because not everyone would have the time to go watch a 3-4 hour movie, and they may also get bored. if they include everything in shorter intervals, the audience would have a hard time keeping track. I personally love the new movie. It keeps us on edge every second. I know in the book there is no cure, but in the movie there is. But in this way, the audience gets a new story as well(atleast the those who have read the book lol). And about the unanswered questions, i think its just a way of marketing. Who knows, maybe in a coming maze runner movie (lets hope Dashner is working on writing a sequel ), we'll get to know what happens to all the immunes in the safe haven(I think i would be happier if a sequel didn't come out, cause Newt was one of my favourite characters, and im still shook). Or maybe the next movie (if any, since the trailers did say it was going to be the last), is going to be based on a prequel and hopefully we'll get answers to all our questions about THE FLARE.
I believe everybody has their own opinion, and everybody's opinion ought to be respected. But maybe next time, you would go full-on saying the movie was bad and unlike the book. Try to mention where you think it was bad, cause I'm pretty sure you enjoyed the movie atleast for a moment or two (dont ask me how you 'enjoy' a movie like that, but I did and I love it haha). Okay have a nice day. Do tell me if you find some other movies that are just breathtaking like the maze runner series (It doesn't necessarily have to be in a maze, or nobody necessarily have to be deprived of their memory at the start of the movie. When i google movies like the maze runner all the results were like that. I jus want a movie that leaves me shook and something i think about days or weeks afterwards too).
Thanks. Have a good day.

Okay some people actually like movies like that. This is actually a marketing technique. By this either they mean there's going to be another movie, or they just want people to watch it again. cause some people think maybe they didn't notice properly or something. Dashner's story was amazing. Everybody has their own way of writing stories, and everybody has different taste. Lengthening it would bring in more to the pot since there are more number of movies. But i still LOVED the movie whatsoever, and I'm going into my third round of watching it haha. (I'm so shook, but i still watch it like what)

Sylvia-Alexandra I read this when I was 13 (wow that was three years ago) and I didn't really like it. I am going to try it again. I'm interested if would enjoy reading it after three years...
