Seriously, just a tap (without any sort of conditioner)?! Where do you live...

I had a serious struggle with water. Had to monitor it weekly so all of the parametres would be ok and I had freshwater (both coldwater and tropical). I was allergic to ammonia (figuratelvely but literally for fish since that's what kills them) and was changing about 40% of the water weekly, with the old one (that was standing in bottles open for about 48h and I even used a water conditioner).

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I only needed an additive for removing chlorine. My nitrates are a little high still, due to newness. Work in progress.

I always used tap. But tap water varies in different countries which is why you need to drink bottled in some countries.

message 315: by Lára (new)

Lára | 479 comments We can drink tap water here but it´s still poisonous for fish :(

I have a lemon plant that I planted from a fruit´s seed when I started University (2012 or so) and he was growing every year a little (we have really little sun, I´m cruel actually to keep him) and this year he gave me 3 fruits :D It´s definitely not the healthiest thing he should do, he should have lots of fruits but not in my climate so I´m happy. He´s my first baby, have never before planted something from the seed

I don´t see anything from one of the people on this site and someone told me it´s because I have him on ignore but I don´t remember putting anyone on ignore list. I don´t even see any sort of ignore list. See only friends list. Do you see ignore list if you have none on it anyway?

I don't know if there is an ignore list. You can block/unblock someone by using the link on the bottom of their profile page (involves a lot of scrolling :p).

Lára | 479 comments I have a team of 7 ppl now and all of them are always late to work. It´s my curse for getting earlier every single time. I just can´t be late and I hate when others are late. It happens I cover more than 1h shift every single day and nobody pays me for it but to the person that´s late they pay like s/he has been there. And it´s not a 5-25 mins late, it´s a whole hour...

That sort of work place unfairness is totally unacceptable. We have staff that socialise or holiday with our boss. Total favouritism.

Can you speak to your boss about it?

message 322: by Lára (new)

Lára | 479 comments I did not complain but they're sending new people to me daily. I'm still new, I mean I graduated from University only last year so I am nothing special.

My apartments is a mess. Every week when I get a day free (well that depends on me), I clean. My fiancé cleans but he´s not as obssesive as I am so he doesn´t do it as "clean" as I do (don´t mean anything wrong with it, it´s just that I´m an perfectionist and I think we need some more cleaning), also we have plants and animals. I take care of thrm because I´m that selfish; I need the in the morning and I need them in the evening. My rabbit is just the greatest, she almost always makes me feel better

Lára | 479 comments I get you, he says the same, almost every day. I just wish I can be like it. This week I hadn't a free day and I was whole week in the afternoon, from 15-23 so there's so much things in the morning I wanna do.

I was never a morning person, so work in the afternoon works fine for me. It's the free days that are bothering me; boss is acting like I'm on 24/7 call every day... and shes calling me any time a day
I'm angry.

I bought 10 books this month, I was so angry. And now I'm angry because I have no place for them

I don´t know. I gave them my private mobile number and noone told me I´ll need to get some special phone for work. The main problem is that I don´t know my scheldule for the next day before around 20hrs and even then it´s not certain. So tomorrow I have a free day but it can change at any moment. Honestly I´m even afraid to go to sleep, I have nightmares... my fiance is an psychiatrist and he tries to help but nothing except sex, video games or books helps and I can´t do those all the time.

I adore my job but what´s too much it´s too much. the problem is that nobody listen to me

message 327: by Lára (new)

Lára | 479 comments Since I know some languages other ppl don´t, they move me from one place to another very often. I was one month in one place and ppl that work there and me got close, bacame friends, and then they moved me to another place and I got friendly with those as well and they moved me, again.

They said I´ll change someone´s shift for 5 days in yet another place, I said ok. and I don´t wanna leave now, since yet again I´ve made friends! My collegues before me said all of those places are hell but I liked all of them, I got friendly with all and I´m not even a social person. I just hate when they want me to work from 9-21 just becuse someone said they want me to translate something and that in completely new atmosphere.

While I was at Uni studying for what I do now, I've never dreamed it´s gonna be so demanding. I feel like I´m medical :( Some ppl even call me about at 2 in the morning to ask me the meaning of some word...

Jason | 131 comments Not sure if this is the right place for this post but here goes anyway

I've just got back from spending the day watching Harry Potter and the cursed child.... and I'm all hyped up about it! I'm not going to give away anything about it but WOW what a show.
I don't go to the theatre very often but this was the most spectacular stage show I've ever seen. There is plenty of magic in it and its always impressive.
The story is ingenious with some parts very funny, others sad but always interesting (hugely important in a show as long as this)
The staging is utterly breathtaking throughout - so clever, so slick, with special effects that will drop your jaw!
I would highly recommend this for anyone with even a passing interest in this World

I don't think I could work at a place where I didn't know my schedule. How can you have a life if you can't make plans? Do all of your co-workers have the same deal?

Yeah :D we get the sheldule for the next day about 5-8 hrs before the shift starts.

I had a talk with my boss tho so maybe it'll get better. Some of my coworkers want to work the whole day every day and thats cool, but I'm not one of them so I've mentioned it, and I've also said I don't want to be called during my free time unless it's really an emergency (or someone is sick) and my boss said that she'll keep it in mind.

Two days now, I'm working 7-8 hrs in the morning so it's getting better :)

edit: the free day's gonna be a test and then the day after. Usually, she gives me one day free and then the other day from 9-22, we'll see

mmm they do. That´s why she´s a better boss after our talk. She asks me now for all of the editional hours (had 6 this week). I´m glad. I was going crazy.

edit: Kevin :) from what I´ve heard from my colleagues, if you´re in my (rare books and translating), yeah, work hours are terrible. The more dead languages you know, the worse for you. Wish I hadn´t mentioned some..

but, I just needed to officially complain which I did, and now it´s better but the scheldule organisation is still not better, I have no idea about Monday or when my next free day is. They still call me at like 1am for some word they can´t translate

I'd turn my phones sound off and then text a reply at a convenient point in the morning. That way they can't keep you chatting.

Mach | 116 comments Hi, everyone.
I have not been on this site for many years. But i used to be a frequent user of this site. Then i startet on University, and had no time for reading fiction. I have only read some of Robin Hobbs books on holidays.

I am now writing a paper on fantasy literature and religion. More specifically on how fantasy writers take inspiration from real life religions. If any of you could give me recommendations about books which are influenced by real life religions (or where there are similarities), then that would be very helpful. If some of you also know about any technical books about religion in fantasy, that would also be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mach,

I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I would recommend C.S. Lewis's On Stories , Tolkien's essay On Fairy Stories and it's accompanying Tree and Leaf - I have these in a book called The Tolkien Reader. And perhaps George MacDonald by Lewis.

I hope that helps! Sounds like it will be an interesting paper to write :)

Try Dave Duncan's Great Game trilogy, which seems to me to be the Bible as a fantasy novel.

So I went to a book signing a fortnight ago and met Peter Brett and had two books signed.

Having decided to do that and so that people couldn't give me any spoilers, I started the demons series intending to finish book four to be ready. Got about a third through three. It's taken me weeks to read that. New pov meant going through old events for the third time. Did my head in!

I read the second half in two days, I gave through the Arlen parts and force myself through Inevera!

Oh, and if anyone here was the ¥|®€£¿ in the yellow coat that gave away a massive book 4 spoiler that even shocked Brett, a pox on you! :)

A good book can survive spoilers. A good book should be rereadable many times over.
