I suggest you go to the good reads home page and search groups.

I have a cinema card so I can see films ‘free’. But the branch between work and me closed and my house is halfway between work and the other so I tend to pop home instead.

Is it just me that's fed up with the cold?

message 504: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We just got it back. It was 17 this morning & 60 a couple of days before. At least it isn't raining.

message 505: by Tnkw01 (new)

Tnkw01 | 2293 comments Mod
It may be me but I'd rather it be warm and rainy then very cold and sunny.

No! We are technically not having rain but it’s like we’re sitting in a cloud so everything is damp. I want to take my new backpack out and I don’t want it to get wet!

message 507: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We got 1"+ snow last night, but at least the temp is up to 29. The past couple of mornings we've started out at 17. Brrr.

17 here is an early summer day. Different units of measure.

message 509: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) 17F = -8.3C & 29F =-1.6C. 1"+ = 3cm, but I figure people can do their own conversions. Silly to need to. In the 70s, I really thought we'd change over to metric units in the 80s. Makes so much more sense than SAE units. As it is, we're constantly tripping over both.

We're similar sort of temperature at the moment. We've been moving between 1 and 11 during the day.

Mmmh. We're between 5 and 15°C here :)

I hate that you can’t access the poll from a phone.

message 513: by Virginie, Meow. (new)

Virginie | 898 comments Mod
Yeah, that's pretty annoying. If you want to know:
Prince of Thorns - 6 votes
Foundryside - 4 votes
The Raven Tower - 4 votes
The rest is at 3 or less.

message 514: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Marg bought a new horse trailer yesterday. It wound up being a bumper pull instead of a gooseneck. Pretty nice, although she's in hock for 5 years. Trailers are expensive. This one is a steel frame with an aluminum skin, 2 horse straight load with a tack room. Very nice ramp that has springs to balance its weight.

We had the kids up for a corn beef, cabbage, & red potato dinner with cheesecake for dessert. Marg soundly trounced us all in a game of 500 rummy. Nice birthday dinner for me.

Happy birthday Jim. Were you born on St. Patty's day? We seem to have several born in March including myself.

I left my teaching job at Christmas and have been a supply teacher since. July is the end of the school year and was quiet then August is the school holidays. Again September is quiet while new classes settle.

Today I have my first teaching day - I’m up 3 hours earlier than average. It was dark!!! And raining. Still money will be mine.

Nice! Will you be teaching there a while?

It’s basically day to day. If a teacher is ill, a school will call the agency.

So finally.... merry Christmas 🎄

I've got a new job! It's an office based one but who knows perhaps I'll prefer being kid-free.

I start Tuesday 11th. Worried about getting up every day (-long time since I've worked that much), plus whether I can do it. But hey, MONEY :D

message 532: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Congrats on the new job, Helen. Good luck. I've never had issues getting up to go to work. Staying awake after lunch is another story.
;)

Congrats again on the job! I thought it was a job as a supply teacher for some reason.

I feel you. I've never been a morning person, getting up on time has always been a struggle for me. To make things worse, I'm a grumpy zombie until I drink at least a teapot (yes, not a cup, a POT :p)

Congrats. Myself, I'm a night owl who gets up at 5:30 every morning. Like Jim, my afternoons are really rough.

Rain, rain, rain.

message 540: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We've finally had a couple of dry days & it got warmer, in the upper 50s today. Rain again tonight for the next few days & back into the 30s, though.

I got the florescent fixture in the horse barn's feed area rewired for an LED bulb & swiped one from my shop so the girls have some light there. The ones I ordered got lost by UPS & that was a mess. So was the rewiring. I changed out the incandescent bulbs in the horse stalls for 4 foot LED light strips, 2 in each. That went easily & well. Huge difference both in brightness & coverage.

Yea, it keeps raining here also. We had the second wettest year on record last year and we are way up for this year also.

Helen | 3616 comments Mod
We’ve had the wettest February ever. So many places have flooded.

The lights sound good - the horses will be pleased.

message 543: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) The horses could care less, but we're all ecstatic. We can actually see the sides & even under the horse fairly well when knocking them off, so we don't have to swap them out to the grooming or run-in area when getting ready to ride.

message 545: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We got 1.5" of snow Friday night, the most we've gotten all winter, & it was 19 degrees Saturday morning. It was 24 this morning & got up to 63 this afternoon. Gorgeous day! Rain starting tonight for the next 3 days...

So much rain! That said, I’ve had sunshine today. It’s only been 6degrees though. We’re having so many snow predictions but barely seen the stuff.

I'm really struggling to access this group through my phone. Anyone else? I get a measure saying

Unable to load page
XML response not formatted correctly

Anyone else? It's been intermittent for at least a year but now all the time and I really don't want to open my laptop for just a quick nosy.

I usually use my ipad. It's a really old one and sometimes it kicks me out for no reason. But overall, it works ok.

No, this is a public group, so no need to login.

I'm not having any trouble with a browser on a PC.
