Yay!! Does yours have illustrations?

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
These stories have that great dark humor that's part of a lot of Ambrose's stories. The one about the butterfly was funny & the one about the dog.

More fable like than horror but that's ok with me :)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
so far this seems more like the devil's dictionary than his horror stories but that's ok with me.

I would not recommend starting out with this if your new to dear Mr. Bierce. I'd go with Can Such Things Be? which should also be free. It's in the public domain.

A compromise is not always a settlement satisfactory to both parties.

Lol indeed it is not.

Would "An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge" be a good place to start for someone new to Bierce?

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Yes!!!!! Absolutely Bob :)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments The fables are unbearable and painful to read. I skipped a ton of pages and i'll start reading the stories because I can't read another one of those dreadful things..

So far...not enjoying it..let's hope the stories are better.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Oh no :( it's not his usual kind of thing that's for sure but I don't hate it.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Sorry Latasha, I'm trailing behind you in reading this book. I'll try and read some more tomorrow.

I was thinking of starting with this, one tale that piques my interest is "An Inhabitant of Carcosa".

yeah I would NOT recommend starting with this one if you are new to ambrose beirce. this book definitely has his dark humor (bitter beirce) touch but it is not his best. he is awesome & I love him but I would hate for this book to turn someone away from him.

I haven't read it for about a week. it's ok, if you don't like don't worry about it. he's definitely wrote better.

Which one should I start with then?

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Can such things be? It's public domain as well.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I read a bit more and gave up, deleted it. It was so unbearable. I apologize for recommending it! lol. I didn't realize it was like that.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Lol it's ok. I haven't read from it in a while. I'll go back to it every now & then. Do you think this was his attempt at a children's book? Oh my, I could see it now! Lol!!

message 23: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments It might have been but I've never read any of his other works So I have nothing to compare it to. Then again maybe not cause who would call a children's book Cobwebs from an Empty Skull? lol.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Oh no Justin! U gotta read his other stuff! Don't let this scare you away.
