These stories have that great dark humor that's part of a lot of Ambrose's stories. The one about the butterfly was funny & the one about the dog.
so far this seems more like the devil's dictionary than his horror stories but that's ok with me.
I would not recommend starting out with this if your new to dear Mr. Bierce. I'd go with Can Such Things Be? which should also be free. It's in the public domain.
Story XX
A compromise is not always a settlement satisfactory to both parties.
Lol indeed it is not.

Would "An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge" be a good place to start for someone new to Bierce?

So far...not enjoying it..let's hope the stories are better.

I was thinking of starting with this, one tale that piques my interest is "An Inhabitant of Carcosa".

yeah I would NOT recommend starting with this one if you are new to ambrose beirce. this book definitely has his dark humor (bitter beirce) touch but it is not his best. he is awesome & I love him but I would hate for this book to turn someone away from him.

I haven't read it for about a week. it's ok, if you don't like don't worry about it. he's definitely wrote better.

Which one should I start with then?

Lol it's ok. I haven't read from it in a while. I'll go back to it every now & then. Do you think this was his attempt at a children's book? Oh my, I could see it now! Lol!!
