These stories have that great dark humor that's part of a lot of Ambrose's stories. The one about the butterfly was funny & the one about the dog.
I would not recommend starting out with this if your new to dear Mr. Bierce. I'd go with Can Such Things Be? which should also be free. It's in the public domain.

Latasha,Would "An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge" be a good place to start for someone new to Bierce?
The fables are unbearable and painful to read. I skipped a ton of pages and i'll start reading the stories because I can't read another one of those dreadful things..So far...not enjoying it..let's hope the stories are better.

yeah I would NOT recommend starting with this one if you are new to ambrose beirce. this book definitely has his dark humor (bitter beirce) touch but it is not his best. he is awesome & I love him but I would hate for this book to turn someone away from him.
Justin wrote: "Sorry Latasha, I'm trailing behind you in reading this book. I'll try and read some more tomorrow."I haven't read it for about a week. it's ok, if you don't like don't worry about it. he's definitely wrote better.

I read a bit more and gave up, deleted it. It was so unbearable. I apologize for recommending it! lol. I didn't realize it was like that.
Lol it's ok. I haven't read from it in a while. I'll go back to it every now & then. Do you think this was his attempt at a children's book? Oh my, I could see it now! Lol!!
It might have been but I've never read any of his other works So I have nothing to compare it to. Then again maybe not cause who would call a children's book Cobwebs from an Empty Skull? lol.
