Juan was hopping into the library, carefree as anything and cheerful as he usually was. He was listening to a song - not just a song, a special song, one of his favourite songs. Let me tell you, there's no better cure for depression than an upbeat song.Juan loved songs very much...almost as much as he loved video games.
Joss opened the door to the library and walked inside. He made his way over to one of the shelves and looked for no book in particular. He'd always loved spending his time in library's. They were quiet, and that's what Joss liked. His eyes scanned each book, but nothing caught Joss's eye.
Rose walked into the library, determined to find a great series that would last all year. She turned and rounded all the shelves but nothing peeked at her interests.
Juan liked the vibe that came from libraries. He was surrounded by books with lots of stories and interesting information. Though, he never used the library to research since the internet was more than capable of helping him with that.Gazing around, Juan was about to wander down another aisle for fiction books when he spotted another boy. Grinning, Juan pulled his hood over his head and sneaked up on the boy to make him jump.
Just for a little, lighthearted joke. Juan needed to make friends anyway.
Rose ran her fingers over the spines of the books in a fiction shelf. A few rows down she heard some boys messing around. This is a library! She thought angrily and rolled her eyes. All though Rose hated boys who messed around she parted some books and peeked through them. There were two boys. Typical... She thought.
Joss jumped violently and whirled around to face a different boy who hadn't been there a second ago. He flinched, but then lowered his arms. He was somewhere else now. He needed to stop reacting like that. He took a deep calming breathe. "Can I help you with something?" Joss asked the other boy, trying not to glare.
Rose watched the two and grabbed a book from the shelf. She stepped away from the gap and rounded the shelf and spotted the two boys. She sighed and walked up to the shelf.
"It's okay, I was just messing around, that's all. No need to bite or anything!" Juan laughed, raising his hands as if he was told to by an imaginary police officer in the back of his head.He glanced at the girl for a second or two, looking a bit wary.
Joss looked down then back up at the boy."Sorry." He muttered. He didn't really know how to act around other people. It was now or never if he wanted to make any friends. He held out his hand for the other boy to shake. "I'm Joss." He said.
Rose saw the boy glance at her and immediately became self conscious. Many boys had told her she was hot and sexy but Rose wasn't into that kind of stuff
Juan's attention was pulled back to Joss and he grinned again, looking even more cheerful than before. He looked like he was going to burst."Great!" Juan shook hands with Joss eagerly. "I'm Juan!"
Joss raised his eyebrows at him. He's never seen someone so exited to meet him before. "Um, are you new here?" He asked Juan. He glanced at the girl who had the other boys attention before, then back at Juan.
Rose scanned the books and walked farther away from them. Then she saw the other boy look at her. Oh crap... She said and flashbacks came into her mind.
"Uh-huh. Really new. In fact, you're my first friend here." Juan said. He managed to calm himself down and took a deep breath. "Heh, sorry if I seem crazy. I'm not a psycho, I swear!" He laughed. He was a bit worried that the boy might find him weird.
Joss gave him a small smile. "Don't worry. I don't think you're crazy. I've met stranger people." He said. "And you're my first...friend here, too." Friend. He thought it sounded weir coming out of his mouth. He hasn't had many friends before. He didn't say that he'd been at the academy for a month. People tended to stay away from him.
Rose rubbed her arm up and down and then took a book from the shelf. She stared down at the beautiful cover. She smiled slightly and put her hair over her shoulder.
Juan noticed the hesitation before Joss said 'friend' and his thoughts began to wander about the boy."Well, it looks like this friendship is extra special, then!" Juan decided with a bright smile. Here, he was determined to make as many friends as he could, but there wasn't anything quite like the feeling of making your first friend.
Joss tilted his head. "I guess so." He smiled. His new friends smile seemed to be infectious, even for him. Friendship. An interesting word to Joss.
((No, not at all :D Believe it, or not, but my friends are even more insane and happy. Your character is perfectly fine.))
Rose glanced at the excitable boy. She raised an eyebrow and rolled her eyes. "This is a library, you know." She said and went back to scanning the books.
(That's good, lol. I thought my character was a bit over the top for a moment there. K, wait a moment...)
"Awesome," Juan seemed to be a little less suspicious of what Joss thought of him when he saw the smile. He cheered up instantly. "You're here for a reason, right? A book?" Juan asked curiously. He could definitely help if Joss was looking for a specific book.
Joss nodded. "Yeah, but nothing in particular." He said. "Just something worth reading." Well, he didn't really mean it to come out like that. In his opinion, every book was worth reading. Unless it was Fifty Shades of Grey. His sister had given it to him as a joke. That book gave him nightmares. Joss looked over at the girl.
"Um, sorry." He told her. She was right. It was a library. They shouldn't be talking so loudly.
"Okay, I'll go and find somethibg good!" Juan said. He turned and wandered the aisle when he heard the girl's voice and froze."Oh, hi! Sorry. I know." He said in a quieter, looking nervous. He was used to talking to boys rather than girls.
Rose smirked and laughed. "It's okay." She said. "Just don't be so loud." She smiled and turned back to the shelf. A book peeked at her interests. She pulled it off and read the cover. Love & War It said.
Joss nodded and turned back to the shelves. He twitched as he saw that the people who had been in the library before them had left some of the books cluttered against each other. Well, in his opinion it was cluttered. To someone else, they might have just seen a couple of crooked books, but to Joss's mind, it was like the beginning of the apocalypse. He began to straighten the books.
Juan glanced curiously at the cover of the book that the girl was holding. He knew it was nosy, but he just couldn't help himself. He searched through the shelves nearby, looking for some books. He picked out a horror, sci-fi and a fantasy book.Juan thought that Joss would be interested in at least one of these.
After Joss was finished with the first shelf, he stepped back to look at it. He turned to another shelf and began fixing that one, too. He didn't really care when people called him strange for doing this kind of stuff. It wasn't technically his fault for doing it.
Rose saw the boy look at the cover of her book. She smirked the slightest and flipped it over to read the back. Interesting! She thought with a smile and picked at the gloves she was wearing. The book was all the rage to Rose. It had romance and horror!
Juan rushed back to Joss, taking another glance at the girl. He nearly slipped as he ran. "Hey, Joss! I think I've got something good." He stopped when he saw the boy was tidying up books."Hehe, you don't need to do that. The librarian tidies up." Juan said.
Joss stopped straightening the books and looked over at Juan. "Then she doesn't tidy it very well, then." He muttered. He turned to his new friends. "What do you have?" He asked, suddenly curious.
Rose glanced over her shoulder and at the boys. She wondered what they were going on about. Boys... so complicated! She thought and tapped her foot. Then some books fell to the ground off of the untidy shelf. She bent down to pick them up and studied them.
"I have three different books! All fiction, though. What genre do you prefer?" Juan passed the books to Joss and smiled. When he heard books hitting the ground, he turned around and gazed at the girl."Heeeey!" He called. "Do you need a hand?"
Rose looked up at the boy from her position and felt a little awkward. For such a tall person, Rose was very flexible. She stood back up, all the books in her hand and smiled. "No, that's okay." She said.
Joss took the books in his hands and looked down at them. He smiled slightly and took the fantasy one. "Thanks." He said and looked up at the girl who had dropped the books. His vision was sidetracked by the rest of the shelves that had some books leaning agaisnt each other and some just on the floor.Ugh, not again. He thought and forced himself to look away. He would not and could not have a stupid 'mental breakdown' over some books.
Rose sighed and looked down at her hands. They still had those white gloves on them that matched her hoodie. Some wavy hair fell in her face as she studied the ground.
"Okay!" Juan called to the girl, putting on a friendly smile (though he wasn't sure if she saw). He gazed at Joss and seemed to sense he was uncomfortable with something."You okay?" Juan asked, replacing his smile with some expression that was mixed between confusion and seriousness.
Rose saw the smile and smiled back. She was about to go back to her dorm but something stopped her. The boy didn't know her name...
"Yeah, I'm okay." Joss said. He didn't think that Juan needed to know about his 'problem'. He would probably just start to avoid him like the others had.
"Okay, but if you reeaally have a problem, don't hesitate to tell me. Problems aren't too good when they're kept alone, nope."Juan noticed that the girl was no longer there...maybe she just left after she decided on what book she wanted?
Juan had made a good point. Last time he'd kept a secret from someone, a different secret, things hadn't ended as well as they could have if he'd just told them. Oh, well. The past was the past. but, still...maybe he should tell his friend. Later."Alright." He replied shortly.
Juan gave a funny, proud-looking smile for a while and stared as he spaced out completely. He realized how weird he must have looked for a couple of minutes and turned around to pick up a book."I've got a cool idea!" He said all of a sudden with his eyes wide and excited.
