Zadignose | 444 comments Wait, I thought pilot bread may have been mentioned in The Dying Grass too... maybe... Guess it's time to reread the whole book cover-to-cover until I find it (no search function in my paper book).

Speaking of Dying Grass, if you have the time, you might enjoy dipping into Blood Meridian. The first encounter with a band of marauding Indians was pretty intense!

Not terribly interested in re-reading Blood Meridian so soon -- I might jump in for some discussion of the ending.

Yeah, that was probably what I disliked most when reading this last year. The style works well in something like The Road, where the possible number of speakers is at most 2. Once you start having a bunch of similarly-gruff guys gathered around a fire or huddled in a gulch, it becomes an impediment.

Pilot Bread was mentioned numerous times in The Dying Grass, the first instance on page 165..

Zadignose | 444 comments Thanks, I was pretty sure, but then I wondered if I was substituting it for some other word in my memory.
