Was the scene where Gene violated Madison Delaney unnecessarily too graphic or did we need this insight into his depravity?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I expected graphic with Gene's fixation on the one that got away from the famous serial killer. He also was fixated on practice until you get it perfect, and his goal was to be a legend in his own mind.... Pardon all the cliches.

As tough as it was to read, it gave me insight into just how twisted he was and what danger Talia faced.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Perhaps I've read too much Karin Slaughter, Karen Rose and Tess Gerritsen but this scene and others involving Eugene seemed quite tame to me.

That said, it was obvious that Eugene was one sick puppy!

It just seemed out of context for the story. Again, it probably has more to do with Gene's character being underdeveloped. Slaughter, Rose and Gerritsen all prepare you for the twisted character or present the crime and then draw the character. This just seemed...out of place.
