It's that time again. November is Random Read Month. That means you can nominate any book that has action/adventure content and meets the general guidelines for our group read. Be creative. You're welcome to post a short book blurb!

Considerations:

1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.
2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You may see the list of past reads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).

The poll will go up on October 19th.

I will nominate Blood Oath Blood Oath (Nathaniel Cade, #1) by Christopher Farnsworth

Don't get confused thinking this is another cheesy vampire novel...it is not! Nathaniel Cade is the President's vampire.

Zach Barrows is an ambitious young White House staffer whose career takes an unexpected turn when he's partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the President. But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound by a special blood oath, he is a vampire. Cade battles nightmares before they can break into the daylight world of the American dream, enemies far stranger-and far more dangerous-than civilians have ever imagined.

Any more nominations? I will post the poll this evening!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Yes! I nominate....something from one of America's foremost action writers, Don Hamilton. An author whom --rather unconscionably--I have yet to read even one volume from! Need to amend this situation forthwith.

That book I choose is The Silencers The Silencers (Matt Helm, #4) by Donald Hamilton . From the legendary 'Matt Helm' series. This great American character--tough as nails--has been unfairly sidelined in the public perception thanks to four horrible Dean Martin comedy spoofs taken loosely from the books. In actuality its some of the best pulp violence ever produced.

Unfortunately I don't see any digital editions but there's plenty of used paperbacks avail on Amazon for $2.

If this is a dealbreaker, then I nominate Kingley Amis' celebrated contination of the Bond series after Fleming stopped. Colonel Sun. Certainly available in many formats. Again, a famous book I have long been wanting to get my hands on...

It needs to be available new because it may not be as easy for everyone to get used books. Do you have another recommendation for a book that is still new in print or ebook, Feliks?

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Book Huntress, thank you for this reminder. I change my nom to
Colonel Sun
Colonel Sun (James Bond, #15) by Robert Markham
which is certainly available in numerous formats. At least eight to ten choices, I believe.

The reason I am keen to read this is because I am intrigued to find out how well Kingsley Amis succeeded in 'mimicking' Fleming.

Donald Hamilton/Matt Helm nomination withdrawn. Thanks again.
