Un-official answer, I think I read that they would put you on Reserve, but that could have been another challenge I am doing. If the Doc was still up, I suspect you are ok, one way or another.

Very impressive Karsyn, even with 200 page, give or take, books.

Don't be impressed. I have no life. We don't go anywhere, don't do anything. We're super excited because in 3 weeks we're using a transportation service here to go to Wal-mart for the first time in over 3 years. We suck. So, it's games and books for entertainment. :)

I'm on a site called Swap-Bot and my group there, Carpe Librum, does monthly reading log swaps, so I put mine on my blog.

Michelle, you're ok. The thread is closed, so if you used the form Sonia will get your info and assign you to a team, but it may take a couple of days

Nancy (nancyland) | 387 comments Me too Sandy! I tried an SRC probably 4 seasons ago and found it too much to keep up with, but, geeze this talk is making me rethink that!

message 561: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments I just found SRC the end of last season, so this is the first season I've participated in. I'm really enjoying it, but my tastes are highly eclectic. That makes it much easier for me I'm sure. The thing I really enjoy about a challenge like that, and why I participate is because it gives me a reason to go out and find new books and authors.

For example, one of the tasks this month was to read two books with the exact same title. I found several, but am going with The Child Thief by Dan Smith and The Child Thief by Brom. I finished the first one last night at work and really enjoyed it. The narration was quite good, and it's way out of the normal books I read. I wouldn't have ever picked it up if not for the task. I was going to go strait onto the 2nd, but I see it's the BOM for November, so I think I'll sit on it until that opens up for my team here. :)

First season doing it, and she's ROCKING IT!!!

message 563: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I really like SRC, I think this is my fourth or fifth season participating. I know I'll never finish all the tasks, at least not until I'm retired and able to read all day. But I just love the planning phase. I haven't found the tasks especially hard to do, I just run out of time. Only very rarely do I "skip" a task, but usually I have books planned for almost all tasks, even if I don't manage to read them all.

Plus even if you don't finish, you have a chance to "win" the writing of a task; nine tasks are given out by lottery according to certain rules. This is my second season designing a task, and that is fun as well.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I really like the SRC but I haven't done it in a few years because I'm lazy. I was just looking over my old spreadsheets for past seasons! I kind of miss making my spreadsheets for tracking. Maybe I'll add it to my already full winter schedule when the winter season comes out.

I don't have plans for Christmas, but I do have plans for shopping. I have twin nieces who turned three in August. I'm their book auntie. So my December disability check is earmarked for massive book-gift spending! :-)

message 570: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1259 comments I'm going to Texas for an early Christmas visit with the family...haven't been home for Christmas in several years so told Mom I'd come this year. Had to coordinate being back in California for Christmas, though, as the hubby won't be away from the grandkids for Christmas. It's going to be here before we know it, especially as November is crazy busy for me at work (3 weeks of travel in the next 5 weeks).

That does sound busy Tara Jo!
It's usually the way when you travel for work that there is a spike at the end of year in preparation for the slower Xmas/NY period (or maybe that's just the case here as it is such a quiet time being summer and school holidays, so many places close down for 2-3 weeks)

My Dad was a twin (fraternal) but we found when the twins (identical) were born that twins come from the maternal line. I remember my sis-in-law being surprised, I don't remember if she has (or how many are) twins in her family.

But like I said, my Dad was a twin. And my grandmother gave birth to him. So that's a maternal line, don't you think? (Though since it's my brother who "had" the twins, I'm not sure this logic works. lol)

And yes, very busy with them, especially as there's a stomach bug going around and both of my nieces caught it. :-( We're all hoping they'll be better for Halloween.

message 574: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16594 comments Mod
Lol I'm not sure that logic works either as then they would all be considered the maternal line. Haha
Another factor is as you get older there is a higher chance of twins, especially close to/over 40. People kept scaring me with that statistic (as I was 38 when I conceived my last baby)

I've heard that as well with the older births. One of my coworkers had her first children at 42...I thought for sure she had possibly gone through IVF or something, as she ended up with twins and they had been trying for years. She told me her doctor had advised her it was not uncommon for older births to have multiples.

Fraternal twins run down the maternal line, as the dual egg dropping is hereditary that way. So, if your husband is a twin, for example, it doesn't mean your chances of having twins is great. If the female's mother had fraternal twins, then her chances are greater.

Identical twins are not hereditary.

Interesting!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Re-did some research on fraternal twins because I couldn't remember the part about a father who is a fraternal twin for sure. So, it turns out that a man can carry the gene that causes hyper ovulation and pass it to his daughters but not his sons. He does not, however, have a higher chance of having twins since it is the ovulation that results in twins. So, if your father is a twin and you are female, you could inherit the hyper ovulation gene and have them.

So, Teresa, as you just looked into it, what if your mother had sisters that were twins. Is it passed directly? Or would that also up the chances?
