Summary:

This book is about two brothers named Michael and Carlos Arroyo. Michael is twelve and Carlos is seventeen. Michael has had a deep love for baseball from a young age and has developed what his father calls, "the arm." What this means is that Michael can throw a baseball extremely fast and extremely accurately for a twelve year old pitcher. Things seem to be going great for Michael until his dad dies leaving Michael and Carlos by themselves. Not only does Michael have to worry about hiding from "official persons' who will try to separate Micheal from his brother but now he is threatened by the thought of not being able to play baseball. What comes next will change Michael's life. Whether that be good or bad, he doesn't know.

Personal Reaction:

This is the first book that I have ever read by Mike Lupica, and honestly I didn't think it would be that great. However it was actually a good book. I liked it because it wasn't just about a boy that plays baseball it had many other aspects to it that made it intense and enjoyable. For example, the beginning of the story was sort of like a mystery, because you know that Michael's dad is gone but you don't know what happened to him that made him leave. In another part of the book it is similar to a thriller because Michael is in a baseball game that will determine if he gets to play in the game of his dreams or if they will come of short after so much hard work. All in all I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to someone who is looking for a good read.
