The priest has a painful connection that won't allow him to live long away from Hyperion, Colonel Kassad is a survivor who is willing to go up against the ultimate evil, and we find out hedonistic and vulgar Silenus is from Old Earth! I can't wait to find out why he's coming back to Hyperion...

What's your favorite story from our weary star travelers?

One theme that is now crystal clear is that of redemption. Do humans deserve a second chance out in the stars?

Is final atonement coming?

I keep getting the sense that judgement is coming, but since we don't know much about the Church of the Shrike's doctrine, I'm not sure why judgement is coming. Maybe this last pilgrimage is Man's last hope for redemption.

Their deity travels through time, he's the Lord of Pain, and I wonder if he had a hand in this last pilgrimage. I would say he could have orchestrated the whole thing (exhibit 1: Kassad has been messed with by his disciple since command school). I hope my mind isn't blown with the revelation to come. I'm trying to figure out all the pieces to the puzzle!

Tomorrow, we find out if we can decipher part of the Shrike mythology. Oh, who am I kidding...I want to hear Silenus retell his wild stories and how he told off his publisher so he could tromp across the universe as a starving artist! Funny, funny, funny!

Wow, we're still free falling through the Hyperion universe even at the end of the book. Totally worth it. This is a rare and awesome space saga. See my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
