I just read an amazing book! It doesn't quite fit with the challenge being American written and mostly set in the Pacific Northwest, but has a strong Scottish flavour through the main character's Edinburgh grandparents and his bagpipe playing so I thought it might appeal to some others of us here!
Said book is The Piper's Story: A Tale of War, Music, and the Supernatural by Wendy Isaac Bergin. It's a bit historical fiction, a bit fairytale, a bit romance, and a bit fantasy-horror (nothing too gory graphic though)

That's quite a combination of genre there! Count it Stephanie. The bagpipe playing is his Scottish heritage.
