Tirla Sascha Dave Rhyssa Peter Dida Tea ... To Ride Pegasus ...Pegasus in Flight ...Pegasus in Space... The start of the Tower And The Hive (Talent Series) is an amazing collection. I adore Annie M for her talent and her spirit...I miss her. However this is not that book. It's a good one too!!! Tirla doesn't take anyone crap! Love how will rounded she is.

I was coming here to say this about Pegasus. The first part with the wristbands and the extra children definitely sounds like Pegasus in Flight. The rest, definitely not.

Link for Pegasus in Flight by Anne McCaffrey - Searabbits and Allison's suggestion

Google Books preview:
https://books.google.com/books?id=vP4... There are different cover images.

Wikipedia's brief description and list of characters:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus...

"Tirla: Illegal street-child and expert survivor, Tirla uses her hidden Talent for communication to make herself useful to the criminals who run the Linears — the overcrowded housing projects of the mega-city of Jerhattan."

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments Kris again while I love Anne McCaffrey The Pegasus Series IS NOT the book I'm talking about. I've already stated this over a year ago. I love Peter Tirla Dida Tea Rhyssa David Sascha and the rest of the characters. It's the start of The Tower And The Hive aka Rowen Damia Damias Children Lyons Pride The Tower and The Hive.... It all started with A Lady In The Tower and A Meeting Of Minds. Annie Mac DID NOT write the stand alone book I'm still trying to find the title of.

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments Can comfirm it's not the company of glass. Ayshe recommended it as the possible title a long time ago. Took a while to find a copy I could actually get my hands on. Love the book but it's not the one in question. Still looking.

Lisa, please keep in mind that moderators quickly scan *new* comments and respond accordingly. We generally don't have time to review a long thread with comments from over a year ago. This is a huge group with a high volume of new posts.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments I'm reposting SparksofEmber's questions because I didn't see answers to them:

Did the book have more of a fantasy vibe or a science fiction one? Was it definitely other planets or could it be dimensions and the like?
Are the stones magic?
Also, is it more of an adventure or a romance?

David Añez | 418 comments I would like to know why only hand to hand combat can kill those beings? What happens when anything else is attempted? Arrows, spears, guns, lasers, etc.

Hand to hand means like with swords/maces or not even that, just bare hands?

Why do the stones mean that people don't do hand to hand combat anymore? I got confused in that part of the description. They actually fight, just with particular ranged weapons or not even that (pacifists or something)?

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments Kris you said something from before my first comment about it not being the pegasus series. Imho that invalidates you not knowing I already said this. However I again commented with respect that no it's not the right series. I love that series and Annie Mac. I've read all of them. Points on discussion do make them appear to match but it isn't the same book.

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments Tab it's a fantasy novel. No the stones aren't magical. In that world they are naturally occurring. Singing bowls filled with water on earth will vibrate like a tuning fork when a person rubs the handles. The stones in the story react in a like fashion to people's touch. It can naturally help them stay awake before needing recharged... Kinda like using any crystal here.
Adventure/romance .. Yes but again it's a fantasy novel. However in the framing of your question more adventure than anything.
Other planets ... Final fantasy legend for gameboy has a storyline that you could climb to any other world once you found the tower with the ladder. That's exactly the same idea as this world. The ladder to other worlds was in the far north. In a temple. Behind a locked door. Only a couple people were supposed to know how to open it. Someone was banished from this world for severe crimes. After 10 years he figured out a way to open the door from the ladder side. Then he compound that action by forgetting to close the door. That's how these critters get into this world.

Lisa Fleming (korexeileithyia) | 45 comments David Anez. The only thing working is hand to hand because the critters are impervious to any and all other forms of combat and protection this world has at their level of society. Only in hand to hand can anyone get close enough to slip a blade thru their natural body armor to get to the juicy bits that will allow you to kill them. By the story line time frame they've forgotten how to fight using hand to hand. All except a crazy old coot of a baron. He got custody of his granddaughter and grandson when their parents died years before. He taught them how to fight have to hand as part of their training. He knew it was important. He has read the old histories when the critters had attacked generations before. So he studied and taught himself how. He taught his house cards l guards and good family. The only survivors are the grandkids. The girl is loathe to take up the baroness title since she's not sure yet gpa is actually dead. I'm trying to be thorough and add several other points of the book just in case. Sorry for the length. Hand weapons: long knives, daggers, etc. They have swords but if it's too long the critters can grab it from the person holding it. Their bodies are shaped so if you are really close by their chest under their chin they can't reach you with limbs digits or mouth. Why other class of weaponry I don't remember. I just know nothing else was effective unless you're up close with a piercing weapon.
The stones don't prevent hand to hand, they help people travel with flight. They help people stay awake. They help people avoid danger. They helped advance the society to a more peaceful existence. The military knows how to fight with their level of tech but they've grown away from using hand to hand so no one but the Baron and his people remember. Anyone not military doesn't feel the need to fight besides the street gangs made up by abandoned kids. These kids don't hand to hand it's ambush and murder to take what the other gangs have, all about survival.
In the battles with these critters if you aren't using hand to hand you are slaughtered to every man and woman on your side of things.
