David In no particular order. Let's list them :)

1. Moria: in the film Gandalf is against going through Moria while in the book he encourages it.

2. When Frodo is stabbed at Weathertop, it isn't Arwen who comes to the rescue, but Glorfindel.

3. Aragorn's sword, Andúril, had been reforged shortly before the fellowship took off. Also, Aragorn was very eager to reestablish the line of the Kings in Gondor; as opposed to the films.

4. Radegast made an appearance in the book.

5. Frodo sold Bilbo's house and moved down to Bucklebury Ferry.

6. Merry, Pippin and Sam had known about the ring quite a long time prior to Frodo telling them. Also they hadn't met by accident as portrayed in the film.

7. The Hobbits camped with Elves one night, when chased by the Ringwraiths.

8.Tom Bombadill and Goldberry

9. Gandalf left a letter to Frodo in Bree. They weren't supposed to meet there, they had set out for Rivendell right from the beginning.

10. At Weathertop, Aragorn instructed to light a fire, as opposed to Frodo's freakout in the film!

11. Gandalf knew about Bilbo's ring much much longer. Actually, that was the main reason he kept returning to Hobbiton. He was investigating whether Bilbo's ring was just a magic ring or The One.

12. Boromir wasn't such an ass as in the film.

13. The Fellowship was attacked by a pack of wolves when going to Moria.

14. The vicious willow that tried to kill the Hobbits wasn't in the Fargorn Forest, but in the forest near the Shire. They weren't saved by Treebeard, but by Tom Bombadill — Treebeard was given his lines in the film.

15. Shadowfax was given to Gandalf in Rohan (or was it Minas Tirith? Can't remember right now..)

16. Saruman addressed himself as Saruman the colourful once in the book.

That's it from me for now :). Carry on!

David 17. Gandalf did not know about the Balrog in Moria — nor did Saruman mention it.

18. Frodo didn't get stabbed by a troll, but by an orc.

19. Gandalf remembered himself that 'Mellon' was the password to enter Moria. He didn't need a prompt from Frodo as portrayed in the film.

Ruby Treebeard really wanted to find the Entwives

Merry did not fight at the black gate because he was still in the houses of healing from stabbing the Witch King
