Um, the book's called the Fifth Wave and the thread title says the Fourth Wave. Just pointing that out ;)

I was actually reading this one for most of September and I was gonna recommend it for BOTM but never did so that's ironic, but I'm still in the last 80 pages or so.

My friend Greg actually got hired by Sony Pictures to write some professional-grade fanfiction based off the two books prior to the release to the movie. So if people are jonesing for some more Yancyverse after they read the BOTM, just holler and I'll post the link.

But I'd rather you read the book FIRST :-)

I didn't review it but I gave it 4 stars. I will say that I loved most of it, the only problems I had were (mild spoilers) (view spoiler)[the insta-love in the second half and the reveal about the aliens' appearance. (hide spoiler)]

I zoomed through this book and the sequel (which was good but not as amazing IMO). Wow!! SOOOOOOO Good!!! Rick Yancy must be eating the fruit of the gods for breakfast. About the insta-love

(view spoiler)[Yes, the insta love might have been a little bump, but you have to remember that after all she went through (and at such a young age), it must have felt good to be able to relax a little without being hunted. She might not have wanted to think about it too much. He wasn't killing her. He was good to her, and kind of all she ever dreamed of. (hide spoiler)]

I know (view spoiler)[ It does make some sense and there is some setup but it comes on far too strong for my taste at the end of the novel. I mean, he read her diaries, now he's in love with her? I could buy that they like each other, but their relationship felt a little too suddenly squeaky clean. I think I'd buy it more if during their story he was more conflicted and confused and less perfect. I don't hate the characters, I'm just not a fan of their relationship.

Also, after so much great setup the aliens look like . . . nothing. I was so ready to be blown away because of how well the atmosphere and the scifi elements were setup and I was so ready to meet some iconic new description of extraterrestrial invaders and their just consciousness. I'm halfway through book two and I'm cautiously optimistic there could be more, but that's just me. (hide spoiler)]

When she looked directly at him (without seeing him) when he was about to kill her, I can understand that he saw something in her, in the human race in general. But that shouldn't have erased all his doubts. He probably read her diary to understand her better. Still the confusion about his feelings, his out of character behavior should have shown. That was definitely missing.
