Helen | 438 comments If you could talk to an author of fantasy romance, what questions would you ask her/him?
I'm putting together a book festival talk, and I'd like to address reader questions. What would you ask?

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) WHY can't you write names that are easy to spell and pronounce???

Helen | 438 comments Good question. I think it comes from a long tradition tied to often medieval European settings, so the names are designed to call up that association. Plus, it serves to cue the reader in to the genre very quickly.

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) I guarantee 90 percent of the readers already know the genre - which is the reason they picked up the book. I usually nickname the characters in my mind, so any symbolism in the name is lost on me.
