Most of mine are audios that I have had as books sitting on my bookcases lol. I tend to enjoy both, but when I know someone who wants 1 of my books, I can go and grab an audio and listen to it as much as I would of read the book.

message 758: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) My husband put my book, The Poacher's Son, somewhere and now I can't find it so I had to start The Boy in the Striped Pajamas because I left all my other books at work.

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 319 comments I am now reading The Dark Divine, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and the Count of Monte Cristo. I read Count years ago and i love it so this book has been taking a back seat to the other two books. So far I am more into the Dark Divine then Loud, but that's probably because I read 130-something pages into it before starting Loud. Has anyone else read the Dark Divine? Thoughts>

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments I am reading Oxygen and Why we disagree about climate change. I seem to be in a science rut at the moment. Trust me I do read lots of fiction too !! Going to finish Anathem when I have read these two books. Then I intend to start 2666 by Roberto Bolano. Going by the size of it that will probably take me till way into the summer to read. I wish I could get through books as fast as you guys can !!

What do you think of Shutter Island? I can't stand to put it down.

You'll have to tell me how you like that because I started it, got about half way through and put it down. I think I meant to pick it up...but I got side tracked...curious to know what you think.

GRRRR I am really beginning to hate footnotes especially after House of Leaves I pla on readin Jonathan Strange soon

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 319 comments I think that's what bothered me...it was so predictable. Still, there is a sequel to it which leads me to believe it's not compete rbbish...so perhaps I will pick it back up jst in case it has a stellar ending...thoughts?

I found the footnotes more interesting than the story, but they were painful distractions. I can't take 3 page footnotes. I never did make it through the book. I wanted to beat both the writer & the editor for the wordiness. I didn't really like any of the characters or feel a connection with them, either. I didn't care if they lived or died, unless they did the latter in an interesting way.

I'm glad you're able to enjoy it, though. A couple of my friends loved it.

Read the first twenty pages and its certainly a different way to start a novel. Like it so far, but I can't see me taking the phone of off the hook while I am reading it. Can see why some people have problems with it. I am going to stay with it though and who knows maybe a couple of hundred pages in I will be gripped and will be reading it into the wee small hours of the morning !!

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments I've started yet another book as well as the I think it is four or five I have on the go at the moment !!! Tomorrows people by Susan Greenfield. I am going to have to stop doing this and just try to stick with one book at a time !!!
Its interesting though, a futurology book about what life a hundred years from now will be like. I know we won't be around then to see if she was right, but its thought provoking never the less.
My pet bird had a narrow escape this morning. Didn't see that he was out and on the floor and let the cat out ? luckily the cat didn't see him when I let him out !!!

Hope you enjoy it !! I didn't think much to this one at all and really struggled to finish it.

message 787: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm on the last story of The Compleat Werewolf by Anthony Boucher. What a wonderful & wild collection of speculative fiction. Only the title story is about a werewolf & it's a way different take on it than I've ever read before. Other stories are SF, SF/Fantasy (time travel mixed with demonology), fantasy, horror & more. You just never know what the next story will be.

I just finished a story where a newspaper only prints the truth. How much trouble could that be? Well, you find out! The only problem is it is the stories are often McCarthy era/war effort stuff that dates it considerably. Still, very good, though.

Vampire Diaries 5 - The Return: Nightfall (after reading the first 4 in less than a week on holiday... hideously addictive for all the wrong reasons)
Jane Eyre (one of my favourite books ever that I'm re-reading for uni)
and Love Letters of Great Men (ed. Ursula Doyle)
