Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I've got me nose into The Lightning Thief about 200 pages into it and enjoying the mythology twisted into it. It is a series that keeps giving me Harry Potter fashes 12 year old orphaned boy going off to a special school for half bloods hmmmm....

I just startred 'Riddley Walker' by Russell Hoban last night. Excellent so far, but its really difficult to read since its entirely written like this....

'On my naming day when I come 12 I gone front spear and kilt a wyld boar he parbly ben the las wyld pig on the Bundel Downs and how there hadnt ben none for a long time befor him nor I aint looking to see none again'

Its a post apocalyptic story set hundreds of years after some unknown disaster so the english langauge has dwindled away after so many years.

Anyway heard of it? Id recommend it so far.

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Graeme I've never heard of that book I love dystopian style books though. I don't know if reading a book all in broken English would be easy to read for me or not. Let me know if it is something I need to pick up!

Donna (dfiggz) I just started That Old Cape Magic by Richard Russo.

It is my Feb. bookclub read here on GR.

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments That's good to hear. :) I'm only on chapter 4 right now and I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the narration and the character of Aibileen.

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Stepanie The Help was my favorite book I read in 2009! I find myself missing those ladies and wishing I could go have lunch with them. Stockett did a great job on character development.
Can't wait to see the movie and read another novel by her!

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 319 comments I am currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo, The second Lightning Thief and the Dark Divine...although my profile says differently...I really should bring that up to date! :\

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments I have just started Her Dreadful symmetry and so far I am not very impressed. It jumps from one character to the next and is about as gripping as a rock face covered in jello. Will stick with it to see if it improves but I am not very optimistic.

I agree with you about the character development. I love how she really captures the voice of her characters.

Wow, they're making a movie out of it? Now I have something else to look forward to! :)

I'll let you know when Im finished it. About half through and I can already tell I'll be gutted when it ends. I really struggled to read the first few chapters in the broken english, always having to re-read the lines for it to make sense. But Im used to it now. Hope I don't start spelling like that, ha.

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Lost Symbol, it's entertaining. Dan Brown's books are like Hollywood thrillers (well, not like... they are >_<), they're predictable and fairly formulaic but they get the job done.

It's pretty much the same plot as Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code. Only it's in the US this time and involves a different secret society.

message 725: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Finally finished The Brutal Art - Jesse Kellerman last night.

message 726: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Had to stop listening to When Will There Be Good News? - Kate Atkinson as it jumped, so awaiting for a new copy again. I am listening to If nobody speaks of remarkable things - Jon McGregor.

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments Her Fearful symmetry is starting to grow on me. I loathed it at first but its starting to draw me in. The American twins still seem pretty vacuous, but some of the other characters have more meat on their bones. Who knows I might even end up recommending it ?

It's a good series and all... but man is it long.

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments I have started Chill by Peter Taylor. It looks like it should be a very interesting take on global climate change. He argues that the world is going to get a lot colder and that he has the proof to back this claim up, so it should make for an interesting read !!!

message 739: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sathans83) | 15 comments I've just started Kiss by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy.

message 740: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) That's a wonderful book, Jo. Good flick, too. Enjoy! Although it's not exactly a 'fun' book. Read the last chapter closely, especially if you've seen the movie.
