I just read "The Canon" by Natalie Angier. The subtitle is "A Whirligig Tour of the Beautiful Basics of Science" just to give you an idea. Very fun, exciting science writing about all the stuff you either forgot or for some reason never learned, plus one chapter with a nice little discussion of the theory of evolution versus "Intelligent Design"(...I found this particularly helpful since I've never fully understood what ID is really supposed to be about anyway.) If you like popular science writing, I recommend it. I really loved it.

message 459: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I'm reading Twenties girl by Sophie Kinsella. It's been a while since I read a cute chick lit and this one is a Romantic comedy with a ghost so it a fun one.

message 460: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm reading a Sherlock Holmes story, The Valley of Fear, published by Hard Case Crime. Very cool covers. They have about 60 books out now & I have most of them. Actually, they're having a year end sale for $1 each to book club members, so I just order the rest.

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 319 comments So behind on my reading, but I'm almost done with Dreams of my Father and the GRaveyard Book.

I am about 1/2 way through shiver and love it so far. I hope the second half is as good as the first. I thought Linger was already out :(

Sarah (sathans83) | 15 comments Heya guys
I'm reading Graceling and really LOVING it.

message 466: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) I'm still reading the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, along with Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult. I'm also reading Eat Pray Love and The Code of the Woosters. Truthfully, I keep picking up books to read, but can't seem to get through them. Ugh! I need something to pop out at me and grab my attention.

message 467: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) I'm currently reading Wuthering Heights and I'm listening to Drood.

Nadia, have you read Water for Elephants or the Gargoyle? I just read both of those and I loved them! They will grab your attention real quick :)

Donna (dfiggz) Reading Rant by Chuck Palahniuk (finally learning how to spell it correctly LOL)

message 469: by Jason (new)

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments When I finish Russia against Napoleon I am going to read nemesis and blowback and the sorrows of empire.

message 470: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) Sarah, I have Water for Elephants on my shelf at home, but haven't read it yet. Thanks for the tip!

message 471: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) Nadia...I really enjoyed Water for Elephants. I didn't think I would because it's not my normal style of book, but it's a good one!

message 472: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Sarah I never heard of Drood I need to investigate into that one!
I agree with Water for elephants and The Gargoyle they were quality fiction and very entertaining hard to put down novels.

message 473: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading Blue Bloods, its really good. But I'm reading for a school project, so I don't have a lot of time to enjoy the book like I want to.

And I'm reading the Gossip Girl prequel, It had to be you. Its amazing! Like the other Gossip Girl books.

message 474: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) I decided on The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson . I love the main character, Lisbeth. It's good to be back with her!

message 475: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Diane I would love to read that one soon also good crime, mystery fiction!

message 476: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I just started Marked by PC and Kristin Cast which was recommended to me by my sister. I'm already thinking about abandoning it. Anyone here read it? Is it worth reading on?

message 477: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I've read 5 of the house of night books Stephanie they are all a bit the same interesting but lacking something. I read them cause my daughter likes them and it gives us something to talk about and they are mildly amusing. I also do want to try to finish the story but it lingers on.

Christy (TheReaderBee) (thereaderbee) | 32 comments Stephanie wrote: "I just started Marked by PC and Kristin Cast which was recommended to me by my sister. I'm already thinking about abandoning it. Anyone here read it? Is it worth reading on?"

My cousin is reading Marked right now. She said it is slow in the beginning, but gets better later on in the book. :)

You're awesome! My mom doesn't like reading the kinds of books I read, she is more of a mystery fan. LOL

message 480: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments My mom only reads religious books Christy. She dosnt read for an escape only watches a movie every now and then. I read them also to feel young.

message 481: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Stephanie wrote: "I just started Marked by PC and Kristin Cast which was recommended to me by my sister. I'm already thinking about abandoning it. Anyone here read it? Is it worth reading on?"

I detested MARKED. Thought it was more than a waste of time. I have the 2nd & 3rd books and my niece insists I give them another try. Maybe one of these days.

message 482: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments Lol! It seems like one of those books you either love or hate. I didn't give it much of a chance this morning but I'll probably read on anyway. If I don't enjoy Marked, I won't read the other House of Night books. Thanks for your comments Karla, Christy and Melodie. :)

Christy (TheReaderBee) (thereaderbee) | 32 comments Is anyone planning to read Fallen by Lauren Kate? It doesn't come out until next week, but I found an advanced paperback copy at the library and put it on hold. Anyone already read this book?

Christy (TheReaderBee) (thereaderbee) | 32 comments I have all of the House of Night books... I will have to start the first one soon so see what everyone is talking about! LOL

message 485: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Marked isn't the best one in the series it dose get better but they all start to get repetitive a bit. I wish the authors wouldn't explain things that happened in the last book so much and get on with the story. I mean I've read the last book don't need to read a synopses every time!

message 486: by Amber (new)

Amber I'm now reading Christmas Jars.... Just a little light reading for Christmas!

message 487: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm now reading Lost in a Good Book (The second in the Thursday Next series). The first was okay but a little too over the top for me (and I think I missed a lot of the references).

I am enjoying the second a little more, (and I found a site for that explains everything!)

message 488: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Hunted and betrayed were the best ones so far I haven't read Tempted yet my daugter is loving it right now and she is already talking about Burned coming out next and wants to know when I comes out dose anyone know?

message 489: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Karla wrote: "Diane I would love to read that one soon also good crime, mystery fiction!"

Karla, I presume you read the first one? Let me know when you read this one, maybe we can discuss in private messages! I am only starting Chapter 3 now.

I ordered Fallen online and can't wait to get my hands on it. I’ll let you know if it is worth the read. Although, you will probably read it before I do - I don't think it is released in Australia till Jan :(
