I think Pynchon is playing with ideas here....paranoia, wealth, conspiracy, pop music, marriage....in a very serious way. And yet it's fun and smutty and fast. Think back to the plot and how much ground was covered in under 200 pages! Even I a Pynchon fan boy can get too wrapped up into looking for meaning...but that's not always the point.
