Hi book club friends, I will be recording a review/discussion of this book shortly and would love your reactions to it. First, did you like it and would you continue reading the series? Second, did you learn about history from this book and was it what you expected to get out of it? Third, what questions or discussion topics would you be interested to hear about on my reaction? Thanks a lot, I look forward to hearing from you!

I especially appreciated that the heroes were multicultural and that the families were patchwork, i.e. parents not together, grandparents caring for grandchildren. Very contemporary and easy to relate to. I especially like the line the book drew between science and the religions of ancient Egypt. Treating the religious stories as myth that no one has believed in in a very long time and the Gods as powerful equals, just adversaries to the magicians and humans is important.

Personally the book spoke to me as young adult yearning to learn the stories of the past. Rick Riordan did a great job bringing the ancient world to life, I could almost smell the past. The book dragged on too long, or perhaps I waited too long to read it. That is, I may have grown too old to appreciate all the battles and predictable characters. I do want my children to read them, once they get a bit older.

That being said, I loved the history and the stories. I did learn of many new events in and perspectives on history. That being said I did not fact check, I just sat back and enjoyed!

I hope you enjoyed The Red Pyramid! Look out for my review/discussion on youtube coming soon (I'll post the link here once it's up). Next on our reading list is the sequel to The Red Pyramid- The Throne of Fire, also by Rick Riordan!
