Taylor Simpson After Katniss Everdeen escaped the death trap known as the Quarter Quell, district 12 is bombed into ashes. This Forces her to live at district 13, the heart of the rebellion against the Capitol. As the war raged on, however she notices things that make district 13 bad as the capital itself. This confusion led to Katniss putting an arrow in the district’s leader: President Coin.

Katniss has to deal not only President snow, but Coin as well. The Capitol wants her dead, District 13 wants to her to be a televised puppet, Peeta was “hijacked” by The Capitol, Katniss’ friends were tortured for stealing bread in District 13, President snow sends mutts to kill everyone in sight until they reach Katniss, and District 13 killing anyone with the Capitol (including children) while Katniss was disguised as one

Having to deal with all of this has made Katniss a superstitious, mad girl. More so than the last two Hunger Game books. Throughout the book, she feels like everyone is dying in front of her eyes because of her. She imagines her future as a gray void. With what she calls taunting from President Snow with his flowers that have a blood curling smell, she wants revenge. She once wrote on a piece of paper “I KILL SNOW”. This isn’t a story about war. This is a story about a girl who has to witness people who she loves die before her.

The Mockingjay is a good book that everyone should read, even those who haven’t read the the last two books. It does a great job at both reminding and telling what happen in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, so you should never be confused with what happened before the events of The Mockingjay. You will look through the eyes and brain of Katniss Everdeen: the Mockingjay, the one that unites the districts, the one who mentally stabs herself multiple times from guilt.

Laurance Davis All three books were great reads, even if you've seen the movies. The movies/books tracked well. But as always, the books were a touch better.
