Vivian W Lee (drvivianlee) | 7 comments Hi there,

I am new to Goodreads. As a publisher and a self-publishing author, I have a few quick questions for librarians from anywhere worldwide.

1) What percentage of PRINT books and eBOOKs do you purchase for the library every year?

2) For eBooks, besides the free ones, up to how much per copy would you consider to pay for an ebook through OVERDRIVE? Also, would you buy from Smashwords network directly?

3) Do you purchase PRINT books from Ingram global retail network? Or, would you also purchase from other independent PRINT-ON-DEMAND networks, like Blurb or Lulu?

4) How and where do you usually search for new interesting titles to add to your library?

5) What time of the year do you make all the book purchasing decision?

Any advice, suggestion or comment is much appreciated. Thank you.

Cheers,
Vivian

Elizabeth (Alaska) Goodreads librarians maintain the Goodreads database. We are not librarians, as such.

Hi librarians on Goodreads are volunteers who catalogue books, fix errors, that sort of thing. They are not necessarily librarians in real life.

I'm not sure if there is a group on GR that can help you with this. You could try clicking on Groups at the top of the page & then doing a search for a Librarians' Group. :)

Vivian W Lee (drvivianlee) | 7 comments I see... that's why I am very confused with how Goodreads work.

I have many book titles under (Vivian W. Lee). And, I don't want those books in different editions all merged into one. Maybe someone can help here.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments You have 4 books under that profile, please link to the books you are talking about or provide ISBN/ASIN.

The 4 books are set up correctly

Abcdarian | 26579 comments As far as I know Goodreads does not purchase books; it's just a site to record them. Originally it was just for readers who would enter their own books; now it is owned by Amazon, but still does not buy or sell books itself.

Different editions of the same book, in different languages for example, are combined in the Goodreads system.

Vivian W Lee (drvivianlee) | 7 comments YES, but somehow, there are supposed to be another 39 ebooks under "How to Speak and Write Correctly: Study Guide" in 17 languages (print + ebooks, all together 34 copies).

I would like to have the PRINT + eBOOK merged into one based on the exact book title for EACH LANGUAGE.

So, there should be 17 copies or listed titles for

English only AND

English + (Afrikaans, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish)

I hope this makes sense to someone.

lethe | 16359 comments Different formats are not merged, only combined. The same books in different languages are combined, not kept separated.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments If you want the other language editions added then you need to provide the information for each language

Abcdarian | 26579 comments All the language editions are there Paula, but combined.

Vivian W Lee (drvivianlee) | 7 comments Ok, I meant "combined" print and ebook versions, but when I did a search by the book title, none of the language copy for the Study Guide showed up, except now for that Spanish copy. It is very inconvenient for readers to search and click on their preferred language.
