Excellent! Thanks. :)

message 109: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments Oh dear... I solved the cryptogram, but I'm unsure about whether I want to play... Two of the choices would be really difficult for me, especially #4.

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments Janice-

I'll keep task 2- the fruit machine's first pick

Bella | 502 comments Janice wrote: "Bella wrote: "I'm going to do task #3."

What? You didn't want to read Twilight? LOL!"

Seriously, Janice. You don't think that in 100 years Stephenie Meyer will be as well regarded as Edith Warton is today? I guess you just don't "get" modern American literature. (Sniff.)

message 112: by Bella (new)

Bella | 502 comments Kidding.

message 113: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Hard puzzle I had to have help but we figured it out I am going to go with the first number picked #2

Would task #5 work for you? I rolled the fruit machine, and that was it's roll for you.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Bella wrote: "Seriously, Janice. You don't think that in 100 years Stephenie Meyer will be as well regarded as Edith Warton is today? ..."

LOL! Will she even be remembered in 100 years?

Camilla | 2101 comments Janice wrote: "Would task #5 work for you? ..."

Oooh, yes Janice, that task is not difficult! I was mainly concerned about task #4, as that type of book is really not my cup of tea. So I guess this means I'm in. Thanks Janice!

Camilla | 2101 comments So now I have to tell in this thread the book I'll read, but not why I chose it, correct?

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I definitely want in for this one!

Edited to add: I've solved the cryptogram. May I pretty please not get #4?

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Anne, you can buy a vocal (or all 5 of them). The price is a 5 stars book recommendation. I'm sure you have some spare ones of those! :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Camilla wrote: "So now I have to tell in this thread the book I'll read, but not why I chose it, correct?"

Yes, that's correct. My thinking was that it would give away the solution to the puzzle.

message 127: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Anne (Booklady) wrote: "Can't do it. sigh. Not good at puzzles"

Anne, if you go back to message 1, you will see that there is already a hint for one of the vowels. A one letter word is either going to be "a" or "I". The other really big hint is contractions usually end in a "s" or "t".

Maybe there is someone who can help you? Let me know if you change your mind.

message 128: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Theresa, you rolled task 2.
Sam, you rolled task 1.

message 129: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Anne (Booklady) wrote: "Can't do it. sigh. Not good at puzzles"

Anne, I felt the same way but I kept reading the hints given and finally cracked it. My problem was that I thought each letter cracked worked the same way in opposite, i.e. e=a, a=e...not so. Each letter has it's own code. Hope that helps.

message 130: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Any single letter following an apostrophe at the end of a long word is very likely an "s" because it is likely to be a possessive.

message 131: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I've decided to read The Rithmatist for my book selection. We can start reading in just a few short days. Where did September go?

message 132: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Sep 27, 2015 06:34PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'm thinking A Guide to the Birds of East Africa or The City & the City. Most prob the former.

Edit: or Snow

message 137: by Tejas Janet (last edited Sep 27, 2015 10:08PM) (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Good puzzle - right difficulty to be fun I thought : )

I'm thinking of reading Broken for You or The Scent of Rain and Lightning, but still considering.

Revised to say that after hearing Bill Clinton's endorsement on Fareed Zakaria's program today, I'm also now considering The Wright Brothers, which also works for my assigned task here.

message 138: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Good to hear that Kristie! I'm reading the 4th book in the series right now.

message 139: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments I'm going to read Mies kuumasta, I conveniently had planned to read it in early October anyway, as it needs to go back to the library.

message 140: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm going to read The House Girl by Tara Conklin for number 3.
