Charles Hash | 1054 comments The view overhead didn't seem nearly as amazing as it had the first time Rhylie had stared up at it with wide, innocent eyes. Where the towering, twisted spires had once seemed to frame the great nebula, they now seemed to restrain it, holding it in bondage; where it had once seemed delicate and gossamer, it was now faded and dull. Dying. It used to soar freely, she thought vacantly. But now they hold it in chains, so they can wonder upon its beauty.

Bernard Glover | 31 comments Mike called up the security camera in his father’s study. Just out of the camera’s field of vision he heard someone demanding an explanation for the events. His father sat stoically silent. The man struck him in the back of the head. His dad still didn’t reply. He put a gun to his father’s head. Mike wished that he could swing the camera around to see the man’s face, but movement was controlled by the now-dead computer system, as was the ability to record the events unfolding. As the man pressed the gun into his father’s skull he noticed the tattoo of the yin/yang symbols in a triangular pattern on the back of the man’s wrist.
“One last time, Kelly: Tell me how to get the system back on-line.” the man said, speaking with distinct southern drawl. His father didn’t move or speak. After a brief pause he squeezed the trigger. Mike watched his dad’s head explode.

A.E. Hellstorm (aehellstorm) | 196 comments “God, you’re beautiful.” he heard himself blurt out. Not even a second later he realized that he had said that out loud and mortified he felt a hot blush burning his face. At this moment he wished for nothing else than a huge hole to open up beneath him. Oh, God, please, don’t let her think that I’m hitting on her or trying to make her feel uncomfortable. As he stared at her without knowing what to say, her face got an amused expression.
“Why, thank you.” she said with a grin and a slight accent, which he couldn’t place. “You’re not bad-looking either.” It was as clear as crystal that she was teasing him lightly and he drew his hand through his hair several times.
“I’m… I’m sorry… I usually don’t say things like that. I didn’t mean… well, I did mean, but you’re very intelligent-looking too… I mean…” Good God, shut up, Carl, for everything holy in this world!

Carl and Allie, meeting for the first time. 'Lost'.

“You have heard it said that you should not murder and this is true. But, there is nothing wrong with anger. There are a lot of terrible, wicked people in this world and they deserve to be put in their place. If you find a man who is not a believer in God, you must rebuke him. You must find his weaknesses and expose them. Do not give promises of love or peace. Expose their sins and give them threats of hell. If they become offended, tell them you are showing them love. It will confuse them and they will leave your presence. God does not want them, anyway, so push them aside further. There will be more room for you in heaven if you do. Burn books, scoff at ideas different from yours, laugh at other religions, belittle embracers of science. And then, my brothers, when you have upset someone, offer to pray for them. This will drive them from God forever and you may take their place in his kingdom."

Michael P. Dunn (wordboy1) | 86 comments (Lily, an immortal, and Marina, a telepath, are walking down the street, searching for a missing friend, who has been kidnapped by a group known as Hunters. After finding that two werewolves are watching them, Marina makes another discovery.)

Marina’s voice trailed off and she glanced back over her shoulder. “The other two watching us…two men across the street…they’re Hunters!”

Lily looked across the street. There were a few pedestrians but no one seemed to be watching them. “Are you sure?”

“As sure as I can be without going deeper. That would alert them.”

Lily’s eyes narrowed. “F**k.”

“Not now, dear. Maybe later, when we’re out of this.”

“You’re just as bad as a man.”

“No. I’m better.”
