I'm sorry if that sounded mean! I'm just so worried about people having things ruined for them!! >_< I want you to experience the whole book!!

RIGHT?!??! I am like dead! I don't even know how to handle this. I refuse to believe that it is what it seems to be. i refuse!

RIGHT?!??! ..."
the fun thing is that I was sure she wont do it, or at least give us hope or something good to look up for.
But plain hurt plus blood or whatever you would call was NOT what I was expecting at ALL
My GOD, How is she gonna right this mess, I can't even...
Larel was my sweetheart and my heart got broken, but that's okay it needed to happen. nothins is like forever however not Aldrick just not HIM!
I was so upset about Larel but I could handle it. Aldrik however I cannot handle. He has to be okay!! I feel like he will be because fire can't hurt Vhalla because they're bonded so air can't hurt Aldrik. Right??? Please say I'm right!!
I'm re-reading those last pages and see if something escaped me, but the results are just the same. the word blood and lifeless are two words that I wish to erase!I do not know they both exhausted their channel soo.... Ughhh
Plus the Voodoo stff didn't settle well with me. the witch took the watch, maybe it had relation with aldrick's life time span and she kind of has control over it, or can curse him. and that's the after math.
OR maybe, just as happened to Vhalla when she fell she too got hurt and survived with bad wounds, maybe??! (yes let that be the right theory !)
I'm praying that he's just very badly injured and not dead because I can't deal with dead lol. So I like that theory best!

Meredith wrote: "On a scale of one to even - I LITERALLY FUCKING CANNOT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!"Exactly my feelings.
I hope that Earth's End's cover will give us some insights into what's going to happen next, Because the 3rd's book blurb reveal NOTHING .
I seriously feel like *sobbing*, 5 mouths is faaaar to long!
I have ALL OF THE FEELS right now... and I'm completely incapable of waiting for 5 months to know what happens. I am hoping that Vhalla's magic saves them both via the Joining, much like Aldrik's protect Vhalla from fire. Because this is the ONLY theory I can live with.Oh and about Larel... THAT IS SO NOT OK!!! NOT OK!!! NO. NOOOOOOOO!!!
Although I'm loving the whole Aldrik, Daniel, Baldiar sexiness in FF. I mean, lets be honest... I'm so all about that.
Elise,
I know you're on your honeymoon, but I'm OFFICIALLY logging a formal complaint. I cannot believe you killed Larel first, and then this?!?!
I was thinking that I would do feedback edits, and you know some glowing 5 star review... But now, I'm just not so sure. I mean you'll still get my 5 stars... take them... take all my stars. But if you think I'm going to wait for 5 FREAKING months to find out what happens, you are sorely mistaken. I will somehow find and steal your manuscript for EE. Mark my words woman... MARK MY WORDS!!!
Sincerely,
Mer
KAI? LOVE YOU BAIIIIIII
Me too. And I decided to do something super awesome and REREAD IT to make sure I read it correctly and it stabbed me through the kidneys.
I assume that would hurt I've never experienced that.

Well... Now I'm also here, hoping for absolut logical theories maybe about Vhalla is just dreaming or there was a direct hint that this didn't really happend like this. ,_,Aldrik has to be alive and not maybe a second voice in Vhallas head... but if he is, then shouldn't the two of them take the chance to run away when everyone believes they are dead?
You just CAN'T take two, Larel was hard and I'll be mourning the rest of the books but Aldrik is a NO *erase the last page from her mind*
Alice wrote: "I just finished the book and now I need therapy. Anyone else done yet?"Oh my god, yes. Group therapy anyone?
I just. I hate everything right now. I had to put down the book like 15 times and flap my arms around and squee like a girl this whole book, and then THAT ENDING?!?! NO. NO NO NO NO. And now I have to wait MONTHS to find out what is going to happen?!?! ELISE HOW CAN YOU BE SO CRUEL!!!! *cries* (T.T)I'm going to go reread the happy bits after I'm done sobbing in this corner. Because this book was fantastic and totally delivered with everything I was hoping for. *happy sigh* Congratulations Elise!

Laurel was the worst heartbreak I've had in a long time. I think I'm still in denial.

First things first, I'm glad you enjoyed the book overall! I've been biting my nails over the ending and pacing ruts in my floors. But I can assure you all, I have reasons for doing what I did that play out in the third book and the overall story arcs. (Though, I admit, it may still be cruel ^_^;)
Secondly... it's only 3 months! 12 weeks from today exactly Earth's End will be out.
Thirdly........ I have some things planned between now and then.... That's all I'll say for now ;)

Elise wrote: "I have reasons for doing what I did that play out in the third book and the overall story arcs. There will be thiiiiiiiiinggggggggsssssssss.
There will be thiiiiiiiiinggggggggsssssssss.
Guys, guys. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. What was your favorite part of the book? Or like, eight favorites if you can't pick like me. I'm still trying to decide.
Elise wrote: "Sky wrote: "12 weeks is foreveeeeeeeer. Just sayin'"There will be thiiiiiiiiinggggggggsssssssss."
I guess that's acceptable Elise. ;) In all seriousness, I can't wait for more.
Emily wrote: "Guys, guys. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. What was your favorite part of the book? Or like, eight favorites if you can't pick like me. I'm still trying to decide."
My favourite line was "Your presence is requested," she read out aloud. "Prince Aldrik C. Solaris."
I snorted.
Okay here goes:Vhalla, who in the past had created a storm to save the prince (book 1), then to dissipate a sand storm completely (Book 2 chapter 12) again to save her prince, proved she has a vast amount of power, and capable of doing a great deal of damage to protect those she loves. Having said that I thought in the final chapter the transition seemed rather quick from her having a great deal of magic to a very limited amount.
But what really felt strange was that Vhalla didn't use her ability to really utilize the wind to create a storm of some kind or something to stop the attack on Aldrik. Or even to have reacted more quickly when she realized he was outnumbered. There is the benefit of the doubt that she's paralyzed at the idea of Aldrik's situation, but in all the other instances when Aldrik's life is in question she wields that anger of potentially losing Aldrik to her benefit by creating or destroying with such ferocity that other sorcerers seem to pale in comparison and in the last chapter she doesn't really rise to the occasion.
Regarding the Bond and Joining since the two have a unique ability to tap into each others magical powers when Aldrik plummets to his supposed death it could be similar to that of Vhalla's manifestation in the first book where she too suffered from the fall, but ultimately survived. Aldrik could potentially survive based on what we've seen with the Bond/Joining. So there's that....
I think the ending would have worked better had there been no clear indication of what happened to Aldrik leaving me with a feeling of hope that he may still be alive (which he could be even with the ending as it is). "She grasped the empty air, his fingers slipping past her bloody ones, she screamed before everything went black."
Jamie, good points. I agree with what you said. I also felt Vhalla's power not meeting expectations compared to what we saw before. Also, in the end, "Aldrik's body met the ground, blood pooling instantly about his broken and lifeless form..."
Yes, I wish there was more ambiguity about the ending rather than what we read. I am still in denial though. I am hoping Aldrik makes it through somehow. We're probably going to see some earth magic.
I'm still not clear on the Bond/Joining. How does it work really? And what all is it capable of? I know according to the books so far there isn't past history. Is it something deliberately left open - in the sense as the characters find out the depth of the bond so do we as readers?
The end of Fire Falling was a real CLIFF hanger (or should I say RAVINE hanger) *sobs and counts the days till February* Elise Kova must be a fan of Game Of Thrones because Aldrik is doing a great Jon Snow impression.

I actually DO love A Song of Ice and Fire...
With regards to Vhalla's magic, discussed earlier. Vhalla had been using her magic nearly non-stop with magic sight and hearing for heightened awareness on the march. That, combined with not getting much rest (and almost no quality rest) put her in a very fatigued position going into the fight at The Pass. By the time Aldrik fell she'd already been fighting for a bit, so she was running on empty. Let's just say, there were a lot of things draining on her when Aldrik fell...
I don't know if you guys wanted an answer, but there it is!

This also isn't the first time Vhalla's magic has failed. Remember before her trial in the cell? She was totally wiped then. Although serious AWFUL timing here!!! Someone get that girl a coffee.
I thought exactly like Jamie about the Bond and Joining. So I won't repeat this theory (wonderful theory). I just can't wait for February. I finished book 2 in one day (in fact yesterday evening). I am so depressed I can't concentrate on anything else (but I'm currently at work, so I don't have a choice nor time to mourn ;;).
To all of you, readers : big hugs. I think we all need it.
And brace yourselves : winter is coming, yes, but February too :D At least, we don't have to wait a year like with other series...
Thank you Elise for explaining that. It does help to understand better. Now, would it have mattered had she been properly trained in her magic from when she was young at the tower? Since, she is not properly trained in her magic like the others (Larel, Fritz, Aldrik etc.). So the control is better with an experienced user vs. inexperienced user. Just wondering...
Oh, yes and no...
Magic in the Air Awakens world is somewhat finite for Sorcerers.
Sorcerers are like containers for magic. How much magic they can hold varies from Sorcerer to Sorcerer and that, partly, defines "strength". They are linked to the great sources of magic in the world and are "refilled" from there. A sorcerer is always "refilling" even if their Channel is closed, it's just part of being a sorcerer. But it's like a faucet that's only dripping. Opening the channel is like turning the faucet all the way on. Again, part of what defines "strength" is how "wide" sorcerers can open this channel, how much magic they can get in to replenish themselves.
These two factors cannot be changed with training. It's like natural athleticism. Anyone can practice with a sport but some people are naturally more inclined to run farther, jump higher, etc.
However, like athletes, there isn't a substitute for training and practice. A really tall guy wouldn't beat a shorter guy at basketball if the shorter guy is an NBA player. Training and practice helps sorcerers learn how to control and funnel their magic. It teaches them how to be less wasteful to achieve their goals. It's like a lot of martial arts that teach small motions with no wasted energy. Similar idea.
Make sense?
