Artsolameelian | 18 comments In my attempts to be an author, I ponder on whether there is one right way or ways to do them, and I wonder how many more experienced authors have walked the same path as I and already found the right way of ways of doing things. And I wonder, if I could just ask those experienced authors to look at what I am doing and tell me how smart or dumb it and and tell me what I need to change or do more of, I would gain a huge advantage!

Any ideas?

Welcome! You will find plenty of advice here on what to do, and what not to do. We discuss many topics here about the writing process, becoming an author, being published, etc...

If you want someone to read your writing and give you specific feedback on your writing, post a request for a beta reader. They can give you great feedback.

You have come to the right place.

There's no universal right or wrong ways of doing things when it comes to writing. Adhering to rules of general mechanics of the language you write is a good idea, but sometimes it's okay to even break those rules. As for style, marketing anything like that - what works for one author won't necessarily work for another.

You've been with the group a while and I'm sure you've found that there are some great resources here. If there's something specific you need help with, just ask.

Welcome to SIA! But ... "Things." I'm afraid you'll have to be a little more specific than that. There are a lot of "things" involved in being an author:

Setting writing schedules/goals
The choice of whether to outline or just make it up as you go
Character creation
Plot
Pacing
Narrative Point of View
Grammar
Editing
Marketing
Publishing
Distribution Channels
Manuscript/Print on Demand/eBook formatting
Author/Book Web Site
Social Media
Blog Tours
Reviews

...All of that has already been talked about to one degree or another here. I suggest you browse the Group's discussions and see what you can glean from the threads already existent. Then if you have specific questions, come back and ask them explicitly.
