I just ordered a copy and Amazon informs me it will be delivered sometime between September 29th and October 8th, so fingers crossed it arrives for the start of the month.

Donna | 1350 comments I'm always up for a little Brian Vaughan.

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments Alright...I just found my paper copies of this series so I'm ready to go. I'll probably take the next week or two to read this volume. Feel free to post thoughts & reactions at your pace.

I blasted through it, was really good! I think I'm going to read it again in sections and see what else jumps out for me on the second read.

Donna | 1350 comments Stop going so fast! I'm sure I'll get through it before I leave for vacation, but I don't want to miss all the discussion. Save some for me, okay?

Sorry Donna! :D That's my biggest problem with comics/graphic novels, I read through them so quickly and then I'm left wanting the rest of the story.

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments I told myself that I'd take my time with this...and then I read it in two sittings today. it's just too funny and entertaining.

Donna | 1350 comments So, back from Tennessee and up to speed. I'm having a little trouble with some of the motivations here. Like the Amazons. What do they feel they're accomplishing? They say they exist to keep others from maintaining the ways of patriarchal oppression, yet their methods seem decidedly from the same school. The battle is won, so other women - who have the same right to live their lives as they see fit - can be the only targets for their violence. How is continuing violence against women changing anything? I find the existence of this group pretty depressing.

Also now have Volume 2 wending its way through the inter-library loan system.

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments Minor spoilers...I think the main purpose of the Amazons is to get Hero involved in some nasty stuff to set up the confrontation with his brother. They don't seem to have a purpose except to bash women who miss the men, which is an incredibly short-sighted goal.

On the other hand, the armed Republican wives were funny. I could see them coming to existence. (And for the record I lean Republican.)

In my opinion the political jokes and commentary are better and lighter in this series than they are in Ex Machina. After a few volumes of Ex Machina I felt like I was just reading the news, but here the jabs aren't nearly as overwhelming.

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments Were there any other things that stood out? Or strong reactions to this?

Donna | 1350 comments I enjoyed Yorick's sweet doofusness. And yes, never ceases to amaze how people involved in government -even if it's the peripheral relationship of spouse- actually have zero practicing knowledge of the Constitution. Didn't they have to pass the same test I did to get out of high school?

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments Is there a requirement to have a high school education in order to hold political office?

Anyway I'm going to continue on to volume 2.

Donna | 1350 comments HA!! Picking up my copy of Vol 2 today.

Hi guys,
So on the subject of the Amazon's, I liked them. Or should I say I found them very believable. I went to an all girls school and have spent my working life working mostly with women and I know how cruel women can be to each other. I can easily see how, without men in the world, certain women would jump to fill the power void left behind. With no men they would feel like the strongest people around and would start to push others around.
The only thing I thought was a bit much was the removal of the breast. I don't care what is going on, I'm not chopping anything off to conform!

HEAR! HEAR!

Thanks Donna!! lol

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments I think that the women from Marrisville in Y: The Last Man, Vol. 2: Cycles are more believable than the Amazons.

Donna | 1350 comments Andrew, I absolutely agree with you. Working together, optimizing their resources, decisions based on civil debate and respect for your elders, this is what I expect from non-Zombie apocalyptic type events. Like I said before, I don't get the motivation of the Amazons.

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments What do you think about the Russian? She's resourceful but has awful luck.

Donna | 1350 comments *I'm up to Volume 3, so don't read the comment. Mildly spoilish.

I was sorry to see her stay behind.

"Man. I would love to diagram that sentence."

Ha!

Do you think we've seen the last of Alter? She has an interesting philosophy.

I've read the entire series so I'm not going to say much.

Carol - have you started volume 2 yet?

Hi,
volume 2 read, loved it.
Loved the Russian and the reveal that she is right at the end. Ordered my copy of volume 3, just waiting for it to arrive.
Hate that Hero has been brainwashed, can understand it though.
Loved the village of inmates, didn't work it out. Really should have!

Andrew (mr_andrew_c) | 139 comments I got distracted by Marvel's Hawkeye comics and haven't touched Y in a while. I should be able to get to volume 3 soon.

Too many good books, too little time...

The eternal struggle of all book lovers!

Donna | 1350 comments Volumes 4 & 5 were my rewards for getting housekeeping/Thanksgiving prep done. I should always reward myself this way.
