Additional to our standard BOTM Scifi and Fantasy reads for next month we will also be reading NOS4A2by Joe Hill as a Horror Read. Enjoy.

Thanks for adding this Paul, I forgot to do that.

No worries. Its outside the norm so easily forgotten. I only noticed as I'll probably start it this week.

I like it when libraries do it right.

Just read the description of the it. And it seems like it would be quite the mind f&@#. Unfortunately between requires readings for school and trying to finish the stand (which is awesome) sometime this century. So it and Dr Jekyll will be my Halloween reads.

I'm sure Joe Hill won't mind you reading his Dads book instead :-)

Sandra (theweekendwarrior) | 26 comments The audiobook was the only format available at the library (unless I wanted to wait forever for it). Kate Mulgrew's reading got me through long shifts, housework, and commuting for a week.

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I read it fairly recently, and I'm not going to reread it for this. But it's a good one and I hope the rest of y'all enjoy it as much as I did.

Good to hear Wayland :-)

Susie (susiend104) | 265 comments Awesome choice! I dont know if I'll be able to pick up either of the other two monthly books (though both have definitely made my to-read shelf!), but I just finished NOS4A2 in July and look forward to the discussion. It's quite a unique novel, not one to be easily forgotten.

Just a quick Q directed at MPauli - will this count as an additional energy cell if read during the month for DC vs Marvel?

Christina Pilkington | 163 comments I've had this on my Kindle for a few years now and haven't got to it yet, so this is the push I need to read it! Hopefully I'll start next week. There are WAY too many books I want to read this month! I had my pre order of The Aeronaut's Windlass come in today, I have Shadows of Self coming next week, and Lair of Dreams is still on my shelf from a pre-order a few weeks ago,and I'm dying to read it. Plus it's my birthday in 11 days so I know I'm going to get a lot of books from my wish list!

Mpauli answered this on the actual DC vs Marvel thread and said that it will count. :)

Carmen Bruce | 3 comments Just started this today, on audiobook. So far so good

Kirsten (ringwraith10) | 60 comments I had this checked out from the library, but I just happened to find it at a book sale so I snagged my own copy! I've heard mixed reviews about it, so I hadn't been sure if I was actually going to read it or not, but since the group is reading it I'll definitely give it a shot now. :)

About a third in and this is very creepy. Enjoying it so far but might not read it last thing at night

Hey, wait -- when do libraries NOT do it right?

When they have random pieces of a series. Like start on book three, or get 1 and 2 but not 3, etc...

Ah yes, that does happen. I'm afraid my library has a few like that, as well. :( I think this is often a result of people donating random parts of a series.

I finished this last night, considering its close to 700 pages I flew through it and it really was a great book. Properly freaked me out and possibly ruined Christmas for me.
I'll start a spoiler thread today. I was looking at where to start it and couldn't decide which folder works.

Jose Ayala (joseayala) | 8 comments If anyone hasn't bought it yet, it's only $1.99 for the kindle version on Amazon right now.

I'M SCARED TO CONTINUE NOW

I'm going to have to pick this up, I've been on a business trip and working from 11pm-8am so haven't had a chance to read which is cumming me out. Hopefully I can get to this once when I get back home tomorrow

Like I said, it's a damn good book. I just didn't do the read this month since I read it not that long ago.

Sorry Rinn, don't get too scared as its worth finishing

I'll be okay if I read it alongside something that isn't scary :P

Alexander Keane | 19 comments I started it yesterday morning and am about halfway through. Hill is totally living up to his father's name in the Horror genre. It's creepy, it's weird, and it's awesome.

I've been meaning to read Hill before, and I'm glad that this was the BOTM that my library had, because I think I'm going to have to read more of his stuff.

I'm not as far as you are, I'm only at about 27% in, but I'm REALLY liking this book so far. The story is so fascinating, so unique, so creative. Hill reminds me of his father in that he can take such simple concepts such as (view spoiler)

Christina Pilkington | 163 comments Oh, and I'm listening to this on audio narrated by Kate Mulgrew. She is AWESOME at narrating this story! It's like having a scary, old witch reading the story to you :) She's does the voice of Charlie Max so well. I only meant to listen for a half hour last night and found myself still listening to this book an hour and a half later.

If you want to discuss the book, please make a thread in the BotM section rather than using this topic :)

Christina Pilkington | 163 comments Sorry! I've never made a new thread before on any group, and I thought this was the one where you discussed the book. I guess this is just the place where we say if we are going to read the book and participate in the discussion? Also, I'm not sure in which BotM section to make this thread since it's not fantasy or science fiction. Should it be in non-BoM section? I didn't see another other special book of the month reads over there so I wasn't sure.

message 35: by Rinn, (Retired mod) Captain of the SSV Normandy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
No worries! Yep this is just to discuss whether you will read it etc. I'd put it in non BotM, yes :)
