Hi my name is Erin. I majored in history at university. I enjoy reading both nonfiction history books as well as historical fiction. I live in Maryland, USA. My grandmother was a pilot during World War II with the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), so I am very interested in that topic as well.

Hi! Gaijinmama here. I have been a member of this group for awhile but haven't been active for a very long time. Thank you for the recent messages motivating me to jump back in and participate!I'm from Connecticut and Los Angeles originally (about equal time on both coasts of the U.S. ) but have spent most of my adult life in Japan. My life in 25 words or less: I came here in 1986 as an exchange student, met this cute Japanese guy, and we now have two teenage kids and a mortgage.
I teach English at a university here in Tokyo and regularly bare my soul to a roomful of drunk people at local open mic poetry events. I've always had a passion for history, both fictional and non-fictional, and I look forward to getting to know you all. I welcome friend requests and of course book recommendations!

I’m Susanne and I live in Texas. I’ve been an avid read from an early age. I’ve been devouring books since I was 7 years old. Libraries and book stores are among my favorite places! Who needs sleep?! I especially love reading history, autobiography/biography and historical fiction. Lately I seem to be reading history/historical fiction from the 19th and 20th centuries, focusing on the US/UK/Europe. I prefer reading actual books,though I do use a Kindle from time to time. I also enjoy listening to audiobooks while I am quilting or card making. So many books - so little time!

My great aunt is one of the few women in the halls of statues in Washington DC and my great Uncle owned the Willard Hotel. The Willard name has a lot of historical importance in history. Hello, I'm Jeff. I'm originally from Iowa, lived for a time in Seattle, and the past 13 years have traveled widely for work around the world. I've enjoyed reading all my life, and it's contributed to much of who I am. I'm primarily a history buff, with a focus on military history, but I like other aspects as well, such as cultural, social, and economic history.I also like literature (I have a masters in Russian literature), but do not read it as much, maybe two-three works a year, but I do take pleasure in it.
I also buy books in other languages that I'm trying to learn, and with a dictionary, try to work my way slowly through them. Am currently trying that on a short piece dealing with the German Revolution of 1918-19. I rarely finish, but it does help my reading proficiency. And I love learning (however imperfectly) languages this way. Works in other languages have very different textures, and it's enjoyable for me to do the mental exercise to decode them in their strange syntaxes.
Probably like many, I don't read nearly as much as I used to, I think in part due to spending too much time on the internet and fiddling with my phone. I want to read more and spend less time with the internet. Could this be a way to do it?

Hi All,I'm Ildiko from Hungary, a businesswoman by profession who has nothing to do with history in her daily work.
At primary and secondary school although I was a good student (all good grades across different subjects) History classes were not my cup of tea at all. The reason was that all my History teachers were focusing way too much on dates during both the lessons and the tests. They failed to show us the real beauty of history: instead of asking us to memorize when a certain event exactly happened - I think - they should have shown us the reasons why this and that bloody war broke out or why certain kings were allies with each other while others were at war.
So as a teenager I read lots of books about history just out of my own curiosity, as I hated memorizing without understanding. I especially loved reading about English and US history (as I started to learn English language at the age of 12), my favourite topic was Lincoln and the Civil war period, I read everything what I could find in the libraries of the neighbouring settlements.
In the past 10-15 years I've been reading books almost exclusively on pyschology and business/technology (those connected with and useful for my daily job), with a few sci-fi books, books by Vonnegut or Steinbeck as my favourite authors, as rare exceptions from the rule. This January I decided to pick up reading classics and other "old favourite" genres again, including history.

So I just joined this group since one of my favourite topics to read is history, and I still have the book that got me hooked at the tender age of 6 -
.I am a 50+ woman from Norway who can't live without books, and as a result every available spot in my flat is filled with books (and some DVDs too). As I said, I'm from Norway and I recently got an account here, but I've been a member of a similar Norwegian site, bokelskere.no for 9 years, and I found that site when I was looking for info on a book I was selling.
I started noting down the books I read in 1999 after answering a questionary where one question was about how many books I read a year and the max was 12! That first year ('99) I ended up on 161 books, and have kept it up ever since, both on paper and for the last 9 years online too. When I remember I book I read as a child I add it at the apr year.
I am adding on my account here from time to time downwards, have gotten to 2015 so far. I can't bare to trow a book away, so I have a 'trade/sale' shelf too. I used to work in a second hand book shop but that closed after over 30 years at the end of last year, so I have no longer anywhere local to sell/trade books.
I have given myself the challenge to read 220 books this year (originally 150 before I found out that I could add some fanfiction too), and the next book to read for me is a history book,

Howdy! My name is Travis. I am in my mid 30s and from the US. I love most things history, but I especially love reading about ancient history, legal history, world War two, and discrimination. My undergraduate degree was in history and my thesis paper was on the immigration quota system of the early 20th century was influenced by eugenics and other racist and discriminatory ideas.I just finished reading History on Trial by Deborah Lipstadt and found it fascinating. I'm always looking for more books to read, so I accept all friend requests and book suggestions!
Hello all, My name is Alex. I am in my mid 20s and from the US southeast. I am fairly open minded about historical topics and periods but for the past year I've been focusing on US and European history from the late 1700s to present (within that, on the French revolution, US civil war to WW2, and the totalitarian period of the 20th century). In college I studied engineering and international affairs, focusing my minor on cyber security issues, especially in Europe - which has led me to a much deeper interest in European history and geography. I'm currently reading
